I was diagnosed with GERD and osteoporosis late last year. Not on any meds yet. GERD I am dealing with diet and OTC. Dr wants me to start meds for osteo. Prolia scares me but biophosphates not recommended due to GERD. Has anyone with acid reflux taken fosomax without major issues ? I am 64 and yes overweight. I k it I need to be proactive here.

If you're happy to take meds for osteoporosis, you could ask to have an annual bisphosphonate infusion (zoledronic acid), which bypasses the digestive system so wouldn't be an issue with GERD. If you go on Prolia, if you had to stop it you'd need to go straight onto a bisphosphonate at that point anyway, as a relay medication to reduce the risk of rebound fractures. Can I ask why you were sent for a DEXA scan? Had you fractured? If not, depending on your fracture risk, medication may not be necessary anyway. I hope you've had blood tests to check for underlying causes of your bone loss.
I took routine dexa at age 63. Numbers are not terrible. -2.6.
Unless there's anything else that raises your fracture risk, that doesn't sound like you need medication. You can ask them to do a fracture risk assessment (in the UK they use the FRAX calculator tool), as any recommendation for medication should be based on fracture risk, not t-scores alone.
I don’t use drugs for my osteopenia. I used to have osteoporosis but have been treating it with prunes, diet, exercise and supplements and have improved . I did have a problem with GERD years ago. I treated it by getting a pitcher that made alkaline water. I use that for my coffee, tea etc. I also eat a lot more vegetables. Those two things corrected any acid problem my husband and I had.
You can take Bisphosphonates having Gerd but through an IV
