Hi everyone, newbie here. My wife is about to go onto treatment for fairly severe osteoporosis after a fall involving fractures to 3 lumbar vertebrae. According to a letter from her consultant to her GP, the consultant seemingly wants her to go onto zoledronic acid plus teriparatide. We're due to discuss/start the treatment in a couple of weeks time. Just wondering if anyone else has experience of both zoledronic and teriparatide treatment at the same time? I find it puzzling because wouldn't the zoledronic negate the superior bone-strength building attribute of teriparatide? As I said I'm a newbie to this so I may be totally wrong.

Zoledronic acid plus teriparatide
it’s very common to do teriparatide for 2 years then followed by zolendronic acid infusion. but together? haven’t heard of it
mass general has clinical trials doing forteo with Prolia together with very good results
There have been studies showing promising results by combined anabolic and bisphosphonate therapy. Here is one: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Also, endodoc, who posts on Inspire occasionally, is a proponent of alternating anabolics and bisphosphonates. Typically three months of anabolic like Forteo, switch to bisphosphonate for three months, then back on the anabolic.
A brief Google turns up at least this one article about combination therapy in women:

As a male, I take teriparatide daily. I would want more info from the specialist on their thinking. I would also compare against standard endocrine clinical guidelines. I suspect this is a novel use clinically.
