Kyphosis question?

To all who have kyphosis, did your back dr tell you to do back exercises like using resistance bands to help keep the curve from getting worse? I was doing them but had to stop due to a repetitive strain injury in my wrists.

I stopped doing them when I was trying to rest my wrists but since the pain isn't going away I don't know if it would be better for me to start doing the back exercises with the resistance bands or if that would hurt my wrist? I asked both my back doctor and hand Doctor the hand doctor does not think that I should do the exercises with the resistance bands because he fears that it could aggravate the wrist pain. However he said that it is my call.

But on the other hand, the back doctor feels that I do need to do the back strengthening exercises to try to help the curve not get worse...

So my question is do you think that I should do the back exercises with the resistance bands for my back's sake to not let the kyphosis get worse or listen to not wanting to aggravate the pain in my wrist? It's like if I don't do the back exercises do you think that would make the curve in my back worse or does that make any difference? I just want to do what would be best for my back and wrists.

Thanks for that, as I'm interested too. I do some of these...kind of...already (just have to stretch often during the course of the day,) and shudder just thinking about foam rolling, but it's definitely an option I could easily try and have not done in...ages, if ever. (I do lie on the hard floor with my legs (90 degree angle) on a chair/coffee table, which kind of "forces" my upper and mid-back to relax in a way that doesn't happen if my feet are on the floor. I can really tell that my curve issues have progressed, that my muscles have started to adapt to...protect the curve? I hope this is good for me--I got that move from a physical therapist I saw before I knew I had osteoporosis, and what I've learned since then is that if I have an active fracture, this move is deadly (in the sense that if the fractured area is stretched, the muscles could spasm when I try to get up again (though it might feel amazing to stretch them!) I have a 6 week old fracture now, so I only just started to try this again. I definitely feel it, those muscles do not want to release, but they do, and no trouble getting up, but I feel wrecked after. Or, what I'm trying to say is, I have no idea if this is a good idea or not. That's what's been so confounding--I'm used to thinking a bit of pain is positive, and used to feeling better after I stretch. Now it's more like the stretch hurts in a wonderful way--I can only surmise my muscles are working overtime--but afterward, it's like someone slightly disassembled me and it's not 100% certain I'm going to get reassembled correctly. Definitely a bizarre new experience.)

Anyway, I want to do what I can to slow the forward progression of my upper back, because I've gone from only feeling it (pain) when I have my arms in front of me to feeling it any time gravity is in play (standing, walking) for awhile, and I am not okay with that. So thanks for more ideas.

(I am seeing a new physical therapist, but she's hard to get into. Also, I'm doing aqya therapy with her...have had one session so far...that's a trip! It's a mega workout for my back muscles just to stay vertical/not float! To also maintain good posture...well, I'm not there yet. She says I'm going to be able to cut hair without hunching forward (which I am sure is exacerbating my issues,) by the time she's done with me. That would be a miracle if true--right now it feels impossible.) )

Sounds like you have found a good physical therapist! I doubt that she would over promise on what she expects you will be able to accomplish, so it sounds quite promising!

Sorry do not have answer to your question. I had the same procedure before getting to exercises I had two more fractures of spine.i think very important you get correct answer re exercises. Maybe a physical therapist who specializes in osteoporosis patients. Just concerned for you! Best wishes.

Thank you anyways and I appreciate your concern. Yeah for right now I'm just going to not do any back exercises with the resistance bands but it's just so frustrating to feel like I'm not able to stand up straight but it probably doesn't make a difference if I do the exercises or not. At least I'm hoping it doesn't because I can't do the exercises.
