Update on Reclast

UPDATE: I decided to get my second infusion of Reclast instead of opting for Tymlos. I was very nervous because I had pretty bad flu like symptoms for 3 days afterwards the first time. This time I started drinking lots of water and orange Gatorade the day before and the day of right up until my infusion. I also took two extra strength Tylenol right before I went in. The nurse also gave me an infusion of a saline bag after the Reclast infusion. I don’t remember getting this the last time as I was at a different location. I continued drinking Gatorade and water when I got home and every 6 hours I took more Tylenol. I’m on day number two and I’ve had zero symptoms so far. So happy about that. I will continue to update here if anything else happens. I realized that I had not done the prep before with the first infusion so maybe that’s why it hit me so hard.

Good to hear how you got on, really pleased to hear you had a better experience this time round.

I'm glad you had such as great plan in place.

I think what sometimes happens is that patients aren't given clear, full instructions to go along with the infusions (or other delivery mechanisms). And patients don't always clearly understand that the instructions truly are instructions not just vague suggestions.

"As needed" often does not help patients understand what to do and when.

I have a friend whose first oncologist handed her 3 prescriptions with instructions to take "as needed." Her second oncologist was very directive about what to take when. The experience was obviously much better with the second oncologist.

Sometimes it's not the medication. What comes before, during and after are equally important.

If you are not getting clear, detailed instructions about "before, during, and after" ask. And keep asking until you get helpful answers.

Thank you for sharing! I just had my first Reclast infusion yesterday. I started hydrating the day before as well as the morning of procedure. Like you, I took two extra strength Tylenol ( as well as Xanax for anxiety 😆😆). All went well and I’ve had no side effects at all. And yes, I was given saline at the end and told to drink lots of water the rest of the day. I hope this helps others who might be as nervous and scared as I was!
