i hope Mum's doctors know!Mum was instructed wait 2 weeks before next dose while tooth healed. so that'd be 2 weeks later than scheduled dose.

she's now developed back pain a week into the 2 weeks off, i think its a bad sign, what happens if you break a bone while between doses? more specifically, what happens if back very sore, between doses? do they actually check that there's no breaks, before going ahead with a dose?

help. thanks.

----------

my mind went a little too far, i hope.

dental surgeon said wait 2 weeks,

endo said can wait up to 4 weeks,

i've read that elsewhere too,

Mum was planning on waiting 3 weeks.

has had sore back before and sore hip and other things

You said she has had a sore back pain and sore hips sometimes in the past, but if you are wondering if she now fractured, I heard that would be extreme pain.

Have you read - that going off of Prolia with no bisphosphonates back up causes what result.

I am not a doctor but it would seem that maybe initially would be muscle and joint pain but not necessarily a fracture.

But we all understand the risk and fear of fracture. When I first did the back extension weight machine I thought I could fracture my vertebrae at the gym . I thought my back could not lift any weight at all. My trainer told me to only do 5 repetitions at 10 lbs and I was so scared. Now on that machine I do 20 lbs and 24 reps and I am still scared.

We all keep weighing the risk / benefit.

In your moms situation the endo must know

how quickly to get back in the game. Has your mom considered strontium citrate. It only naturally strengthens all bones, teeth, jaw without weakening as I understand it.

She could ask her endo and dentist? My endo said “ we don’t like people taking both medicine and strontium citrate bc then we don’t know why people got better”

The point is to heal and protect our bones even if we don’t know how or why we improved the strength of our bones so I don’t agree with my endo in fact I am switching endos and so far I personally take

Low dose medicine and low dose strontium citrate .but not at the same time of day and my pharmacist approved what I am doing.

thanks dear Raleigh, that sounds really good, what you're doing,

if i was in the situation it might be something i'd be interested in,

i agree, if it was fracture it'd be much more painful?, i need to hope for better

i've come to the understanding that the docs don't know about alternatives and are just sticking to the same, out of unknowledge, and in a way, i get it.

the doctors are afraid of liability. My dr said “ the only documented research improvement of bones is from medicine.” When I asked about strontium citrate she said it’s not documented Research but it actually is. She did admit if you take medicine and strontium citrate we won’t know why you improved . . It’s like she’s not hearing what she said.

oh - my dismay - this is what it's looking like, they don't know and aren't taking responsibility. Mum saw a doc yesterday, for the pain and constipation,

got an xray, dr knows her prolia schedule,

then on phone to another doc for pain prescription,

i had the opportunity to ask the dr, saying that the dental surgeon had said wait 2 weeks,

and the endo said up to 4 weeks,

and that Mum scheduled 3 weeks,

and that i think the signs are related to the prol**,

and should the next dose be moved to meet the 2 week mark?

doc said check with, endo i think.

i can see why she said that.

i didn't mean to go on, but this story must be added to the prol** files.

now online it says that constipation and back pain are the main reasons for discontinuation by patients,

but that doesn't make sense - it's the discontinuation that's led to the constipation and very sore back!,

so if this sore (fractured) back and constipation leads to someone's death, rest in peace, it's called 'discontinuation'... is that the type of drug manufacturer that we want to entrust our health and lives to?

thank you for chatting

i think that the back pain and constipation are the effect of being of prol** , even at 10 days

and i don't know whether it's good to get the next prol** dose soon as possible now,

- or - if that's the worst thing to do now that it seems the vertebra are resorbing

and - i don't know if the endo knows either

I understand completely- they don’t listen to the patients. The dr gave me fosamax daily and I was told from pharmacist, one can’t cut it in half. I finally found out why - it’s because it can cause heartburn or an ulcer. However I can’t take the 10 mg daily bc of stomach ache. I thought in order to take those I cut them in half which I now have learned was wrong according to any pharmacist you ask. All I know is I then had half the level of stomach ache so I thought half the stomach ache was much better and it enabled me to take the medicine versus not taking it.

Now I am given 150 mgs in one pill of ibandronate for 30 days. If I get a reaction like diarrhea or throwing up or high blood pressure that can last 2 + days. Now I am told by pharmacist I can’t cut it in quarters even though now it means me not taking it at all.

I really think the altering it of crushing it could cause an ulcer if you do that for the long term but I don’t believe in the short term it’s a problem.

Idk maybe with osteoporosis medicines the least amount is really best which to means any of the daily choices. Which means next out of pocket choice $55 per month or going back to fosamax daily and possibly taking with digestive enzyme or a non calcium food which the pharmacist also disallowed but the pharmacists and doctors don’t understand I am at the point of taking no medicine at all.

, I just spoke to my close friend who is a dentist last night, that wound healing is a problem from taking any osteoporosis medicines -oral or injections.

sorry our message order has gotten mixed up. anyway, see, dentists know about it! that was the only mention i saw on the dental surgeon's consent form, it just had 'MRONJ' handwritten in a box called 'possible complications'. i didn't notice it at first, then was looking at paper, it mentioned ONJ, i dismissed it for a moment as it was so extreme, and i hoped it wouldn't apply to my Mum's case ... but dental surgeon had written it on part of the forms.

as it has turned out, it's proving to be no longer a danger, thank God, as Mum heals and applies hygiene. the big concern now is the sore back and constipation.

i saw a write-up in racgp on strontium ranelate, i might run it by the endocrinologist. racgp.org.au/clinical-resou...

i was going to disappear in despair, but now feeling conversational about it.

I was solely referring to strontium citrate which is a vitamin over the counter.

i see.

thanks, evidently i don't know about these treatments.

i can't get Mum to take any otc stuff that's not approved by dr's!

i was wanting to show endo something in that direction, but, they're not the same thing ...

that a dr says a thing like that defies belief!

which part are you referring to.

to not take two things cause they won't know which is working 😒

yes exactly- I just want to heal my bones- if one has healthy bones does anyone care how or why they have healthy bones!? If I do medicine, strontium citrate and weight lifting and elliptical and everything together plays a role in improving then to me it just means keep up what you are doing.
