The doctor should be offering recommendations regarding treatment. If a specific medication is suggested you can check back here for the experiences others have had, which can help your mother make an informed decision. You don't say how old your mother is, which may also affect her choices. Outside prescription medication, your mother should be making sure her diet includes calcium rich foods. Supplements should include Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 (not K1) and sometimes other micronutrients like magnesium, boron, etc. If extra calcium is recommended some types are more easily absorbed than other. Also some simple exercise is helpful.
I don't know that osteophytes are called tumours? They are bony outgrowths at places where a joint, for example, has deteriorated from conditions like arthritis. A condition many of us have as we age. Again, a doctor and possibly a knowledgeable physiotherapist, may have ideas for pain relief, including muscle strengthening exercise to help support the bones.
Your mother is fortunate to have a daughter who is concerned and helping her.
I don't understand all the medical jargon, but I don't see any specific mention of osteoporosis. Reduced bone density is mentioned, but that happens to all of us as we age and doesn't necessarily mean osteoporosis, which would need to be confirmed by a DEXA scan. I think most of what is described is wear and tear/osteoarthritis ("degenerative changes"), but suggest your Mum speaks to her doctor for clarification and treatment options.
