A lot of people ask us which is the best calcium supplement to take. We reply that the best one is whichever one you'll take regularly! There are a ton of products on the market, ranging from cheap to pricey and sometimes touting benefits or making claims that aren't supported by much evidence.

Here's a buyer's guide to help you in your next trip to the grocery store or pharmacy. Note that the Best Overall is in the lowest price range and contains cheap, widely available calcium carbonate.

We don't endorse any of the products on this list, and we want to add a few things to consider:

- It's best to get your calcium and other nutrients from food and beverages. Use supplements only to bridge the gap to your daily recommended amount.

- More is not better when it comes to calcium -- very high doses of calcium might be bad for you.

- Always break up pills into doses of 300-500 mg as your body can't absorb more than that at once.

I don't take a calcium supplement but take D3. I should be getting enough through my diet.

Yes, vitamin D is much more difficult to attain without supplements, especially if you live in northern latitudes.

My doctor just put me on Vitamin D alone, as I stopped taking Adcal-D3 due to having to chew the tablets mixed with calcium and vitamin d3. I am very sensitive and allergic to foods, chemicals, fragrances and more, and found chewing lemon flavoured Adcal-D3 gave me an allergic reaction.

That sounds sensible. The D3 tablets are easily available at the stores, in my experience. No reason to take additional calcium supplement just to get your D3. thanks for sharing!
