Bile Reflux

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to have some advice.

I had my gallbladder out over 10 years ago and my stomach has not been the same.

I had terrible acid reflux so was prescribed by the hospital omeprazole 40mg a day fo gastritis. Then I was ill again, waking up choking with white/yellow stuff so my GP prescribed Famotidine to take at night. These have helped up until recently.

For the past three months, the choking again as started not just at night now, I’m feeling sick constantly, awful taste in the back of my throat and pain in my shoulder blade. I had throat camera which showed bile in my oesophagas and was prescribed sucralfate four times a day for eight weeks. .

All my bloods are normal and stool samples as well.

I still don’t feel better and feel sick all the time

Any help will be appreciated xx

I’m so sorry to hear what you are going through. It’s awful that so many of us are suffering with these kinds of issues. Not sure what to tell you but maybe something that I’m doing will help you. I eat super small meals every 2 to 3 hours. Very bland food right now. I take 1 Pepcid (20 mg) first thing in the morning and wait 30 minutes to 1 hour before eating. Then it’s oatmeal or dry toast. PepzinGI after breakfast. Water all day long with toast or chicken every 2 to 3 hours. After my last meal of the day if I start to get reflux I take a charcoal tab to absorb excess acid and use a Gaviscon. I will start to wean off of the 20 Pepcid very soon as the problem is not my gastritis now (it’s healed) but is coming from a sliding hiatal hernia. Have you checked if you have a hernia or if your liver is working okay? Those ppi’s do more damage than good. Your stomach needs some acid to digest that;s why I opted for Pepcid instead of a ppi. There is slippery elm taken after eating to coat the stomach too. I pray that something here will work for you.

Sorry to hear you're suffering as it's such a miserable condition that people without it just don't understand. I have a hiatus hernia but didn't have acid problems until I got covid but then have had dreadful problems for over 2 years. They gave me Omeprazole however even taking one caused me awful side effects and ended up in A and E. Lanzoprazole also caused side effects. Pantoprazole I could tolerate for a month then had intolerable side effects. I started taking slippery elm which seemes to do the trick and got rid of the gastritis. I have had 3 different bottles of it with a break in between...but now just take Gaviscon when needed and not often. I had to have a bland diet for over a year but now tolerating more. Some people just can't tolerate ppis and maybe Omeprazole is affecting you? Try slippery elm.

I’m sorry to hear this. I had my gallbladder removed last year. Had a great three months but then stomach pain was just as bad. Situation escalated with nausea, bloating and blood in stools. Had colonoscopy and gastroscopy. Nothing sinister but bile free flowing in my duodenum and leaking up into my stomach. I get intermittent gastritis. I’m on 20mg pantoprazole twice a day and peptac four times a day. As I have other major health issues my GP has decided to wait and see. Meanwhile I avoid eating too much or too often, leaving a good few hours between meals. If I’m stressed then I go on my monastic diet of simple bland food and mint tea till things settle. Hope you find a way, with help.
