The Sphincter I think is a muscle that prevents food etc moving back up the oesopheagus. If it does not close properly food and liquid can move backward into the esopheagus and cause heartburn .They are saying this is not happening but you know it is.I was diagnosed with oesophegeal dysmotility and dysphagia by endoscopy years ago both which are about food sitcking in the oesopheagus.Have you had a barium swallow test?
Hi Awwy-googled Normotensive oesophageal sphincter with complete relaxation and it suggested the following may help - "By lifting and holding the neck from a supine position for 60 seconds at a time, you create enough tension in the muscle associated with the upper esophageal sphincter that it can strengthen the valve. Doing a similar lift and holding within the abdominal region of the body cannot provide the same results for the lower esophageal sphincter.”I might try this myself.Hope it helps.
