Hello! I can't really answer your question, but I am interested because I have a hiatus hernia too, and am severely worried by the amount of acid in my mouth during the night and in the morning. Hernia repair does not seem to be widely offered compared to the number of sufferers, so I was wondering just how poorly you are to have been offered it. Did you have many endoscopies.
All I can suggest (having done a lot of research) is the Nissan Fundoplication procedure is not the perfect fix as the doctors would like you to believe. A lot of people afterwards a) have to continue with the dangerous PPIs, b) cannot vomit or burp, c) the stitches burst d) the procedure does not stop symptoms. I have been trying to find a surgeon who will just do simple hernia repair ie reposition stomach and tighten diaphragm but all doctors want to do Nissan Fundoplication (I don’t understand why). Just do your own research. Good luck.
Having had results from endoscopy that there is no Barrett's issues then the treatment is likely to be long term PPI . Not to sure that I am wanting to go that route. Also it feels almost like a ticking time bomb before, if left and acid reflux gets worse there is a possibility of Barretts developing. SO is the next step hernia repair ? It has been muted as a possible option but I am not too sure where to start on research for this one, any advice greatly appeciated.
