Hi everyone ! I had a bad bout of acid reflux about 6 years ago and got diagnosed with a small hiatus hernia no medication worked but somehow seemed to resolve itself , anyway for the past 8 weeks I've been absolutely awful with it no matter what I eat or drink I was back on lanzoprole for the last 6 weeks but the doctor asked me to come off them for 2 weeks before a h pylori test and omg the acid has been absolutely crippling I've not slept at all the waves of acid wake me up could this be rebound reflux if so will it get better πŸ™ƒ

Possibly yes. Not everyone gets it but I’m one of those who suffers from awful rebound when coming off PPIs. Nor have I ever had any advice volunteered by doctors concerning potential problems when stopping the medication though if you know to ask them they will normally come up with suggestions to help with it (have you sought help from your GP? If not, it might be an idea to do so). Fortunately I had been on medication before which required careful withdrawal when stopping it so the first time I was given a PPI I reasoned that given what they do there might be a risk of problems so I gradually reduced the dose. It took over a month and wasn’t great but it was probably better than suddenly stopping them. It does get better-or it did with me - but it was very uncomfortable while it lasted.

Talk to your GP. When I came off cimetidine (also a stomach acid suppressant but less powerful than PPIs) I used Gaviscon Advance to help with the rebound. Ask if you can do likewise. You will probably still need to stop the Gaviscon before the test but you may be able to take it for a short while.
