My daughter is 13 and is struggling with her emotions and gets frustrated quickly and reacts when things don’t go her way she becomes aggressive towards me and can say some really terrible things and I feel she has anger issues and it’s effecting her relationship with her freinds , not sure what to do ?

Hi, I feel your pain! Been there and am happy to say I’m on the other side now. I dvoured the book, “Mom, I Hate My Life,” by Sharon A. Hersch. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It’s practical, applicable and supportive.

Hello Frock ,

Sorry to hear things tough at home with your teenager at the moment.

There are a few things I would like you to have a look at and if they don't help or you need to chat things through further, please call 0300 300 0123.

In the meantime, if you think your daughter would be happy to speak to a professional via our Chat line service, she can do so on:

I hope these are helpful.

Best Wishes Rachel

Hi, thanks for sharing your concern I'm going through the same problem with my daughter. She's refusing to go to school and says she hates it. Tried moving her but everywhere is over subscribed.

We are having difficulties with our 13yr old daughter too. Hates school because she thinks they all hate her, thinks we hate her and shout all the time (not all the time!) Forever getting detention/isolation at school as she fires off when asked to do something, or asked not to do something. Keeps talking about killing herself (cries if she has a paper cut so not taking very seriously, wrongly or rightly) Very worried she is getting behind with school stuff, especially English & Maths.

At home in the holidays she is generally a different person, yes her brothers wind her up on occasion and she loses it but it seems to be very school orientated anger.

Hello kirdaz77 ,

Sorry your daughter is having a tough time at school right now.

There are some resources above which would be useful and also this link is worth a look:

What sort of communication do you have with the school? Do you have a regular contact you can discuss any concerns with ? Does your daughter have a named person she can access during the school day if she starts to feel overwhelmed/angry? Does she have a designated place she can go in school to unwind if she needs to.

justonenorfolk.nhs.uk/emoti... This link has a variety of links to support you as a parent and also services your daughter can access, especially if she is talking about harming herself.

The school may also have access to support services she can access.

I hope things improve for her soon.

Take Care. Rachel

Thanks Rachel, I am in constant contact with the school as I'm very worried about her education and that they will try to expel her.I have a meeting with Sendco tomorrow to see what additional support they can give.

There is a lady in student support at school who has been helping and she tends to go there if she needs help but if she is busy helping elsewhere my daughter will hide in the toilets.

Not what you're looking for?
