It's my 6th anniversary today......

Funny, how the date of a medical procedure becomes so important in our lives. This time 6 years ago I was undergoing my oesophagectomy. It was a really challenging time as I developed a leak which kept me in intensive care for 40 days and in hospital for 60.

Almost seems a long time ago :)

I've learnt so much about the new me since then. Numerous challenges and ongoing difficulties but overall I've done amazingly well and most people who meet me find it hard to beleive that I was ever so sick.

So however you are feeling today, chin up, you will get there. All it takes is some patience and an acceptance that you must adapt your lifestyle to reflect your new anatomy.

I wish you all well.

Larry

Nice one Larry, one day at a time and now 6 years on. Well done.

Yes the date of the op does seem highly significant.....mine was the 1st Feb 2012 and discharged from hospital on the 14th Feb 2012 (best Valentines present for my wife in32 years of married life).

Still not on the booze yet but I will raise my mug of tea to toast your continued good health.

Kind regards Mick.

It is so good to hear your news; I passed my four year milepost in April. I have sometimes felt things will not get better, but then I surprise myself when they do.

All the Best,

Steve

Thanks to everyone.

It's great to be part of a community that share and understand each other so well.

Make sure you all post your milestones whether they be anniversaries or achievments of getting back to something you were doing before surgery. As they help those who are still getting back on their feet to believe that it will get better

Was it Bloody Mary or Mary Queen of Scots who declared that she would die with the name of Calais engraved on her heart? The date of this operation will likewise remain forever with me, and hopefully, "forever" will be some considerable time into the future. I shall toast you with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc this evening.

Best wishes,

Speakman.
