Hi everyone, just wanted to share with you that it is 10 years ago today I had my oesophagectomy. The early years were quite challenging with several stretches, 2 dumping episodes where I passed out ( both times luckily just missing hitting my head on the basin as I went down) Not to mention the food situation. Can I eat that? If so how much? But recent years I’ve learnt what my limits are. I can now eat anything, just in smaller quantities. I have built my fitness up by walking every day and am enjoying life. If anyone reading this is at the start of their journey, there are tough times ahead but like me you will come out the other side. I know it’s a Monday, but my wife and I are going to raise a glass of wine this evening to the last 10 years thanks to my brilliant surgeon, Mr. Marzouk.
Best Wishes, James.

congratulations on your 10 year anniversary. I am just past my 5 yr anniversary and like you, life is pretty good after a few tough times at the beginning.
CONGRATULATIONS🥂 It’s always so good to hear such a positive story. I’m 19 months post IL and although I still have bad days they are few and getting better. The greatest help is learning from this group and people brave enough to share their experiences. Enjoy your celebration
congratulations! It was my 10th anniversary earlier this year and sounds like a very similar journey- we are blessed to have recovered and still be here enjoying life! 👏👏
Well done, Snap, I passed my 10th in February. Dates not to be forgotten, surgery on the 1st Feb 2012, discharged on 14th (Valentines day) Feb 2012. up to being discharged I habdn`t eaten solid food but the dr discharging me said well you can have small meals at home.
Congratulations! 10 years is a great mile stone. I'm just over 2 and a half years post surgery and still figuring some things out, but I think I'm doing well so far. Every day is a celebration. Enjoy the next 10 years.
Very good 10 years. Nice. But I dont know that I can live after esophagectomy. Iam 32. I had a transhiatal esophagectomy for achalasia one year ago. Ok I am so happy for you James. My name is Alireza from Iran.
One year is still very early days. After this operation our lives change forever and in the early days, like you are in it can seem quite daunting but over time you will learn to adapt and start enjoying life again. Possibly even more than before the op because I think you appreciate it more. Good luck and best wishes. James.
