Mucus build up and throwing up!

Dad diagnosed with OC and metastasis to lymph nodes, liver and lungs. Also gastritis. The build up of mucus and throwing it up almost once every 30 to 60 minutes is becoming unbearable. Can anyone advise on symptom relief? Palliative chemotherapy (ECX) due to begin next week.

Has he been offered a stent - I don't know if that would help? Also omeprazole strength could be revised and perhaps he could be started on something to reduce his secretions? Has he spoken to his specialist nurse - they are usually on the ball with symptom control.

I hope it gets better ASAP

Thank you for your answer. We discussed a stent initially but the the consultant gastro doctor saw no need at this point. He is on Lansoprazole and I asked the district nurse this morning if he could perhaps try an extra one at night as well as the one in the morning. She read the leaflet and gave no definitive answer. However, she did suggest scopoderm patches to reduce secretions. We have not been offered the services of a specialist nurse but I will investigate this.

Again, thanks a million for your answer. It has reassured us.

I would suggest getting a McMillian nurse on board a.s.a.p. They don't actually do handson nursing but offer advice, support and have a wealth of knowledge on the drug front. You could phone them direct but also your GP should be referring your Dad to them. Get all the help you can on board including applying for AA and the services of Marie Curie Nurses if needed. I have been in a similar situation and send you my love and best wishes.

Thanks all for the input. The answer is that the tumor was completely blocking the oesophagus and even saliva was not passing through. All the saliva was gathering and then it was expelled. Daddy had to go on a drip for fluids as his kidneys had nearly packed in and he was dehydrated. After a week of this they inserted a stent. This symptom then disappeared.
