I only had that in the morning and evening so was quite lucky. It was awful though. I would wretch so hard. I thought I would burst all the stitching from my op. It lasted about a month in my case. But we’re all different I hear. Stick with it. I hardly get it at all now. Good luck x

Mine wasn’t that bad but it was so thick I had to cough really aggressively to get it out. It was white and thick. Sometimes as stretchy as an elastic band. Not bad now though x

Hi john, yes sounds just like mine but I have lots of it far too much to cope with sometimes and generally worse after I’ve eaten maybe 10 or 20 mins after so how or what op did you have to stop it hope you don’t mind so many questions but I’m so desperate, due to see consultant next week so I’m trying to arm myself with questions. Thanks again xxcarol

I only had the Ivor Lewis op and the mucas started after that x it just subsided on its own. My surgeon put it down to collapsing my lung for the op x

Thanks john, my right lung has had radiation so maybe that’s what’s causing the reflux to be so bad , lord knows all I know is it’s unbearable really disabilitating xx Carol

So sorry to hear that. I had fluid on the lungs after the op. I now swim every morning and sit in the steam room for 10 mins which helps me x

Hi Carolg1, My wife had this op 5 years ago and certain foods still bring up these terrible mucus issues. Try to find the meals on this site, what to eat and what not. Meat, fruit, fresh

uncooked vegies and solid foods brings on this problem for her. Hope this will help.

Hello Carolg1 I have the same thing as you I think , I cough a LOT all of the time loads of mucus , thick white / clear , worst first thing in the morning , but all day everyday for must be 10 years plus now. Throat clearing , and uncontrolable coughing fits its awful. I have had every lung , gastro test going , drugs inhalers you name it. The only thing they found was a slight dismotility in my oesophagos . I am on omprazole and Ranitidine at the moment but doesnt seem to make a lot of difference . x

Hi, do you have lung problems at all ? And does the mucus affect your breathing prior to you bringing up the mucus , it’s horrendous , I have little quality of life , I have the motility issue with my gullet which I take panteprazole and donperidone but I can’t say it makes much difference x

Hi Carolg1 I don't have lung problems as far as I know , my chest does seem a bit rattly until I bring it up . I have to get rid of the mucus otherwise it is coughing fit after coughing fit , its as if it is such a irritant I have to get it up . I did think it was lung related to begin with as it felt it was stuck on my chest , and so so difficult to get up . I was put on claithamicin and that seemed to help a bit . But after I saw the lung Dr I saw the gastro Dr and was put on Domperidone . This helped a bit , but I had to stop taking it as my prolatin levels went through the roof , and I would feel faint and had palpatations . I have a nasal spray from the Dr to try and thin the mucus , also try Sterimar spray , I have Jakeman sweets on me at all times , and gum and of course water ! x

Hi Carolg1 its called Mometasone Furoate 50mg spray . Also there is a new drug coming out its called Af219 or mk 7264 its on trial at the moment , read a blog called Cough up blog spot , a guy with a chronic cough . I have asked for this drug but it,s not been passed by NICE yet . Not sure if its of any use ? might be worth a look x
