I am 5 years post surgery. I was given Gabapentin for a couple of years after the surery to help with the pain/discomfort in the healing of the nerves that were cut in the shark bite incision on the back. Even now, while I don’t take anything for the occasional dull pain in the shark bite incision, I still get some pain if I sit in a hardback chair for too long at the incision site.

I don’t have any advice regarding the sore throat in the morning. Are you experiencing any acid or bile coming up during the night that is causing the sore throat? I presume you are sleeping somewhat inclined each night?

I agree with Peter could be reflux burning your throat especially as it is worse in the morning. I sleep with a pillow under a triangular pillow, with another pillow under my knees to prevent me sliding. I have ‘elephants feet’ propping the head of the bed. I take Omeprazole at night and morning plus gaviscon double strength if I reflux into my throat. No food 2 hrs pre bedtime. I’m sure you know all this stuff! My sharks pain has never gone up always on the scar radiating to my side. I’d go and speak to your go if you are not due for an upper Gi app. Sorry your in discomfort and I hope it all gets better soon.x

thank you for advice I do all that with pillows and propped up and take reflux medication how would I know if it’s reflux coming up in night sorry if that sounds silly but I don’t really suffer with acid in the day thank goodness do you ever ache from sleeping in the same position all the time ? X

Hi yes sometimes it takes me ages to get comfy at night. I woke up 2 or 3 times in the night as I’ve slipped down the pillows. When I get discomfort in my back I use a microwave pad. It takes me an age to ‘warm up’ in the morning. I find washing my hair causes the most reflux even though I do it on empty. X
