Pain from chronic gastritis

Hi , I was diagnosed with chronic gastritis by endoscopy last year despite already being on Esomeperasole which I was prescribed a week after having my gallbladder removed 9 years ago . My gp just recommends increasing my meds but that doesn’t help . My symptoms start as soon as I wake up and sit up when I burp , I then have discomfort under both ribs which is manageable but once I have something to eat I start to feel the tightness / pressure happening which is so debilitating....I then take a pain med which helps until I eat again and the same thing happens . Is this tightness bloating feeling gastritis ? Can anyone advise and also anything else that I can take to help ? I must add that the endoscopy also stated some bile related reflux .....any advise greatly appreciated, thanks .

I'm not sure that is gastritis and could even be pain from the bile which I've heard of many times when people have had their gallbladder removed that they still seemed to have problems. It could be a few things & even sounds like the MS squeeze. Sorry I cannot be of much help but really would get an appointment to see your Dr and perhaps request another opinion.

I have had the same situation both before and after my gall bladder was removed. Been in this situation for almost five years now. Have you ever had a bile acid malabsorption test. I would ask to be referred to a gastroenterologist again for further tests. Its a horrid feeling i Know only too well. Good luck hope you get some answers and treatment. PPIs like you are taking made me worse not better.

Hi, thanks for your reply ...what does a bile acid malabsorption test show ? X

It checks to see if the bile is properly being absorbed by the body now the main vessel for dealing with it, the gall bladder, is gone.

Also Mrsmaggie, I was told by other sufferers that acid blockers such as PPIs (prazole meds) can worsten bile problems as PPIs are to treat acid related problems. I have heard of people using PPIs for years only to go to a different GI who asked why were they on them for a bile problem. I would see someone different or query this with the Dr. Maybe request a more in-depth scan which might show any stones blocking any ducts. Sometimes it needs checking that the bile is going through the system and not getting blocked, I think there might be a medication to help if it is not being removed

Hi there, having suffered both I know how you feel. Do you have blood tests to see your liver results?I was told you can still get stones in your bile ducts after removal of gall bladder.Do you watch what you eat? Cutting fat, tomato’s coffee and spicy food out might help you might be able to introduce them back in your diet later.

Do you take your emeprazole morning and evening? Also take Gaviscon Advance?

Unfortunately I was diagnosed with Oesphagal cancer a year after gall bladder removal, which I have had treatment for and clear 5 years on.

If you are in pain you need to go back to the dr and get seen by gastro team.

Best Wishes

Debbie

Hello and sorry to hear this. Easier said than done but limiting stress and increasing sleep can sometimes provide relief over time help

Yours looks like a complex case history and difficult for commenting to be of useful to you. As always internet stranger (advice) danger disclaimer.

Gall bladder removed 9 yrs back, esomeprazole since then.

Chronic gastritis diagnosed last year

Movement triggers your symptoms. indicates to me a mix of symptoms relating to indigestion, delayed gastric emptying, and relaxed LES.

bile reflux in my view can soothe the acid contents related pain in theory. With gastritis there is a lot more caution to be taken for taking meds such as NSAIDS, ibuprofen etc.

Continual acid suppression is going to require eventually increasing the doseage at times when the body smartly tries to adapt and adjust the acid production to meet its normal function.

Creon and such enzymes will help form the after effects of the gall bladder removal.gaviscon advance may help temporarily. when the symptoms trigger.

prezole PPIs work only when used to suppress the production and not when the trigger activated. that point only damage control methods may help in painful situations.

any gastric pains can be tiring very extremely and mental fatigue sets in. Please do remember to hydrate yourself and enjoy fresh cool breeze on your face.
