Hi, I’m recently diagnosed too last month my ocd became very severe. I’m in a similar position too I have a big number of checking compulsions/rituals I have to do. I’ve also found myself replacing old compulsions with new ones. I also have phrases and one off words I have to keep on repeating until it feels right, I don’t know if that’s similar to what you’re doing?
CBT is seen to be the most effective treatment in helping OCD, have you tried contacting someone to get more advice on that?
I’m currently on medication but I haven’t been on it long enough to have an effect yet, however I have some coping methods to get my mind off things. I try to do my hobbies and keep in touch with friends everyday on our group chat. I also, meditate and have a journal to write down my obsessive thoughts. You should tell your doctor or a mental health professional though as they’ll be able to help you in the best way, to help ease your obsessions.
That's the nature of OCD; it likes to expand and creep into all corners of our lives. But it can be checked and controlled. CBT or cognitive behavioural therapy can help a lot to curtail the spread and regain ground, so if you've not been referred for this, then ask. There is usually a wait, particularly with the Coronavirus, but you can make a start by purchasing a self help book that uses CBT and get started on your own.
Meds can also help. They are not an instant cure and take a few weeks before you start feeling the effect, but they do go a long way to making you feel more able to tackle the OCD. They are best used alongside the CBT.
