There are all sorts of things you can do, though it does take a bit of effort and you need to learn to tolerate feeling uncomfortable in the short term for long term gain.
I can share a couple of methods that I've been taught in therapy that I've found useful.
One is to postpone the worry. So for instance you feel the need to carry out a ritual, or negate an unwanted thought, or whatever, and you think, 'I'm not going to worry about it now, but I'll allow myself ten minutes' worry at four o'clock'. Then four o'clock, or whatever hour you have chosen, comes and goes and you've forgotten all about it.
Another method is to think of the panic and anxiety as like clouds overhead, or leaves on a stream, or a wave swelling. The clouds rain on you, the leaves are in front of you, the wave gather force. But if you can tolerate that, then the clouds will float past and disperse, the leaves will float by, the wave will break, and you will start to feel better.
I do hope that your doctor is prescribing a course of CBT for you. If not, ask about it. There may well be a waiting list, but it's worth having.
