Best to verify first of all whether you are pregnant or not!

Most new mothers, and new fathers too, feel anxious and protective about their newborns. It's entirely normal. But pregnancy and new motherhood can be a trigger for OCD and cause all sorts of worries that you might harm your baby in some way.

These are groundless, as the very people who have OCD are highly unlikely to harm anyone, let alone their own child.

There is no reason why you should not, now or in the future, go on to be a good mother. The nature of OCD is to attack us where things really matters to us, and make us afraid of causing harm where we care most.

It might help to get a diagnosis of OCD, if you haven't got one already. Many people with your sort of OCD are afraid of confiding in a doctor or therapist, but they will have heard it all before and no one is going to think you would really harm your baby.

There is help out there for you, and I'm sure you will be a loving and caring mother. I hope it goes well for you.
