My doctor keeps reassuring me, "You are taking clomipramine and pregabalin for so long, you just can't have the side effects now!"
What my mind interprets "My doctor knows the side effects still exist, but wait a minute, psychiatrists are playing mind games to us targeting us get better, if he confirms the side effects (the bad news) he loses, so he plays his cards cleverly and denies the side effects existence..." <------- WELLCOME TO YOUR NEW OBSESSIVE THOUGHT!

It's actually a fair question. Is the doctor a psychiatrist, or a general practitioner? Because a psychiatrist ought to know that side effects don't always go away.
The initial side effects when you take clomipramine can make you feel really lousy. I felt as though my head had been removed, stuffed with cotton wool and then put back upside down. Then a few weeks in, I started to feel better, as though a big black cloud had lifted. But some side effects persisted, or at least the drowsiness did. That didn't go away all the years I was on clomipramine.
May I ask what your side effects are?

Those are listed as side effects of clomipramine. It sounds like quite a lot to put up with. It might be worth considering switching to an SSRI like sertraline. Don't stop taking the clomipramine suddenly as you'll only give yourself withdrawal symptoms.
Switching to sertraline or a similar drug simply means cutting down on the clomipramine gradually, while increasing the dose of sertraline.
Have a few words with your doctor, if you've managed to sort out your access to the NHS. If not, then go along to a local surgery and ask to be registered, as you are entitled to treatment on the NHS if you live here.
I'm not saying don't take medication, but I know for me, I can't take medication, and I rely on the keep fit and meditation to keep that anxious side of me on a manageable level. And I also agree with Sallyskins comment below.
