Auditory hallucinations and OCD

Hi, I have OCD and was diagnosed almost a year ago. When I saw my counsellor for the first time to discuss my mental health, I described my OCD as having a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other because, to me, it felt like my brain was having a constant battle with itself! This angel and demon thing have now turned into voices in my head (auditory hallucinations) and they have become quite sinister...for example, the other day, me and my boyfriend had an argument and the voices kept saying it was because of me and that he doesn't love me etc.

I want to know whether it's quite normal to hear voices when you suffer from OCD because if it's not then it's probably something I should bring up with my counsellor!

I can't really comment on whether this is 'normal' as I am not an expert or a clinician, and I think it is something you should bring up with your therapist.

However, all of us hear voices in our heads, usually our own voice, occasionally in the voice of someone we know. It is typical of OCD to try to undermine your self-confidence and hearing a voice blaming you for a row you had with your boyfriend is just typical of OCD. It likes to put unnecessary doubts into your head.

It is literally a battle within your brain! The rational part of your brain keeps on being attacked by the OCD loop that keeps on telling you all sorts of silly things. Do tell your counsellor as they may have come across this type of thing before.
