hi, after yet another scan I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of my hip along with age related spinal stenosis. It is great is greatly affecting my mobility. After waiting a year I had my steroid injection 3 weeks ago and so far no improvement in my walking so back to taking co codamol/paracetamol 8/500 mg. Has anyone else had the injection and if so was it successful? Any answers or tips please it is severely affecting my quality of life and have had to give up short May bowls and walking far even shopping and struggle with housework and gardening. I am 78 yrs old widow and live on my own and I am worried about the future.

Hi Margie, I do sympathise, I too have arthritis, in my spine and feet and knees. I luckily have my husband and as we live in a flat heavy work is minimal. I have been disabled now for 12 yrs. Life is not easy but with an operation on my foot and injections in my knees elbows and shoulders I carry on as best I can. I take co codamol 15/500 mainly but I can take 30/500 if I have a bad day. I use mobile scooters from our local shopmobilty for shopping in town, they are lifesavers. I always try to see the positives in life and not the negatives. If the latest injection you had has not worked speak to yr GP who I am sure will help. No one today needs to be left in pain. I also have a cleaner who is also now a friend, she is wonderful, maybe you could think of getting people to help you, we all need help in different ways. Try not to be so hard on yourself, I am 76 and have Bronchiectasis as well as all my other ailments but I enjoy life. Yes I sit sometimes seeing jobs I could do 10 years ago, and cannot do now but that is life. Find a hobby you can enjoy, I quilt. Take care. Maximonkey

I am sorry you are having such trouble with so much. I can relate as I have had hip and leg pain for almost a year due to spinal deterioration. I went to PT, and that helped reduce the pain by about half, but still had pain walking, and sleeping was the worst. For some reason, lying down made the pain constant. I had read about low intensity vibration machines possibly benefitting osteoporosis, and decided to give it a try since I have both osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. After 2 months, I can tell you that I still have pain, but it is quite a bit less. So, I am feeling that the LIV machine is what helped me along with the PT exercises. I intend to keep doing both every day to see if I can reduce my pain even further.

Of course, I don't know what will help you, but I related to your problem and hope you can find a solution that works, Margie!

Hello, Margie. I am ten years older than you and have arthritis in my knees, hips, and upper spine, also in my wrists and fingers. I am also on co-codamol and paracetamol. I had a total replacement of my right knee last year then I caught Shingles and had a stroke, so the knee op hasn't really worked well. I have found that by doing specific exercises to strengthen the various muscles surrounding the affected joints has enabled me to get about better. I still get pain, but my experience is that by doing specifically targeted exercises the pain is lessened considerably. You will need to consult a good physiotherapist for about an hour for several weeks. Perhaps your GP could arrange this via the NHS. I wish you luck and you have all my sympathy as I understand how difficult this affliction can e
