l would really appreciate any advice on controlling osteoarthritis pain in knee. I currently take 60mg Duloxetine and co codomol which is the lowest dose. At night I struggle to sleep as a result of the pain.

I just need relief from the pain and feel depressed because of the uncontrollable pain.

Good morning. Sorry to read of your pain problems. The only things that worked for me, before knee replacement, were Co-Codamol 30/500 ( prescription only ) and Naproxen. Nothing else would touch it and none of the rub in cream/gel, voltoral etc had any effect at all. I still take the Co-Codamol when neccessary.

Hello, thank you for responding to my message. I think that another appointment with my Gp is needed to she if she will allow me to up the dose of co codomol and l will ask her about naproxen as l would like to try that also. Thank you again, l appreciate your advice and taking the time to respond. xx

With the Co-Codamol you an take up to eight a day if needed. Just be aware that they don't suit everyone and may give you constipation.

Thank you so much for this advice, l have only been taking two some days and on more difficult days, four, so it could help me a great deal and just see how l fair on six to eight tablets when the pain is really testing me. xx

Sorry this really stinks….. If you can try Australian Dream Cream this stuff works well for me or Blue Emu…. Magnesium is another night time alternative.

Because I don't want surgery on my knee (severe OA) I had a steroid injection that's helped me to get around the house and up and down stairs more easily. I had it in january while in hospital with other problems and while in there one of the respiratory doctors offered the steroid. Tablets stopped working. I have codeine on prescription....the hospital told me to take 45mg but that was for something else, maybe they might work for you. Worth seeing your doctor to find something more suitable.

Thank you for responding to my post, I will certainly ask my Gp and see what she says as sometimes she can be reluctant to change my medication. x

quite a few years ago there was a well-regarded research study done on the effect of glucosamine on knee pain. You can buy glucosamine at pharmacies, it might help,

hi! I have bad OA of the knees and I had Hyalgon injections in them twice. These injections worked real well for me. You might want to ask your doctor about them. I had to fight with my insurance company to get them to approve the injections. My doctor’s nurse did all the work to get them approved and so glad she did. I’ve been pain free for 4 years. But that is a miracle because they’re only meant to help for a couple of years.

Hi there,

Thank you for responding. I will ask my Gp for sure if she can refer me for these injections as they may very well help with easing the pain.
