Glucosamine

I've been taking glucosamine off and on, mostly on, for about thirty years. Only recently have I learned that it *may* cause some insulin resistance and elevated blood sugar. As I have had somewhat elevated blood sugar for a while I'm going to try cutting glucosamine dose in half and see if that makes a difference. I probably won't have blood tests again for another six months, so should be plenty of time for it to bring about a change. I hate to discontinue it altogether because I'm sure it has helped me during the decades since my OA diagnosis.

Has anyone else had experienced this?

No can’t say I have, maybe slightly during Pred years but put it down to being just that. No issues since being off Pred…

I'd been putting it down to pred as well, but my dose has been well below 5 mg for 6 months now, mostly 3 mg and under, especially recently. When former doctor only checked random glucose my blood sugar level almost exactly followed a trajectory downwards correlating with pred reduction, from nearly diabetic to totally normal. But she never did the (other test with all the numbers and letters I don't know what it's called without looking it up) so I've no idea if what we see these days has been with for me for years!

Do you mean the long term one that looks back over the last few months? Can’t remember either, late hubby was the only one in the family with diabetes. Lot of water under the bridge since those days.

Yes. It is HbA1C - not exactly a catchy name! ;)
