just wondered if anyone has regular steroid injections and whether your GP gives them or do you have to go to the Consultant ?

Thanks

I've never had them from my GP, but then my GP isn't at all interested in my RA and I can hardly remember the last time I saw her. My rheumy or rheumy nurse are the only ones who have offered them, and they both say that they like to stick to no more than 3 a year unless there's no other choice. Polly

Heya, Yes I've had the same said to me as Polly - 3 per year. However, I suppose this is more of a sort of guideline, heaven knows I had more than 3!!! I'm counting them for you now lol - it's 12! 4 of them ones into the butt not directly into the affected joints. I think the limit relates to these, I think you can have more of the injections straight into an affected joint as far as I was told. I had all of them within a 10 month period. Plus oral steroids.

I had them done at the hospital with the consultant the majority of times. One time I had it done at my GP practice because it was a sort of emergency.

Hope this helps :) Christine xx

I tend to get the systemic ones every three months and have not been given a limit, don't know if there is one! I do think though as my anti tnfs refuse to work small oral steroids might be next, will discuss with my docs xx

They say no more than 3 into the one joint in a year although sometimes we have no choice but to have more. I counted the amount i had last year and it came to 13. Most were in my knees and some for all over benefit. If your treatment is working well and the disease is not active then you shouldn't need them at all. I get mine done at the hospital. x

I've not had joint injections, the bum injections are not really allowed less than three months apart, I've had one at the GPs, the rest at Rheumy consultations. I find the pills work better for me though. I've had two reducing courses of Prednisolone in the last year, and three bum injections.

Thanks everyone for responding. Seems there is no definate answer to this particular minefield.

Thanks again, jan

I daredn't say how many I have had and now not allowed any more. Not more than three to the same joint each year I was told.

Hi. I asked that question of the doctor recently & he said three a year. I also get mine done at my local surgery.
