I'm scheduled to get steroid injections next week. Has anyone had any luck? What are they like?
Steroid Injections?: I'm scheduled to get steroid... - NRAS
Steroid Injections?
Painful to start with depending on where it is. Yes I have had benefit from having a injection.xx
Thank you! I'm glad you've benefitted!
A general one, or imto specific joints? i've had both and they work for me.
Into specific joints. That's great!
The relief is so so good, I wish there was a bit more positivity on this site
Ive had both types and generally worked very well. Yes can be painful at first but worth it. The one that worked the least into a joint was when I did too much straight afterwards. All the best.
That's really good! I'll keep that in mind afterward. Thank you!
I still remember the first time I had joints injected (they did several to show the students). It was just so wonderful - I could cross the road without stopping half way in my previous hobble. It has never been quite so dramatic as that since, but I do respond really well to extra steroids.
Oh wow! That's amazing. Thank you!
I had one last month as my arthritis had flared up, next day all pain gone.
Ah yay! I'm so hopeful! I hope it works that well for me as well! Thank you!
Oh yes very beneficial indeed, I've been well pleased with my results. Good luck to you with yours .
Thank you so much!
Excellent. Ive had dozens all ovet. Excelleny relief
That is fantastic! Thanks!
I have had good luck with injections. Both knees (for last 4 years) Seems to give me a year, then it starts to ache again. And a thumb-once have been done. Think my left shoulder is next, unless its doing tendon damage. Then well I don't know, just found out about that one, I expect the right to start soon as it seems what one side does the other just has to chime in too. But oddly not as badly.... Well unless I am trying to sleep. Most of the time the injections are not too bad. But I had one with the knee straight and it hurt like heck, its much less painful bent. They use a numbing spray and that helps. They tell me don't exercise that day yet the time the car broke down and I had to bike there was one of the best injections, held up really well too. I do tend to get a bad headache after them though, lasts a couple days.
Oh wow. A year! My rheumy said around 3-6 months for most. That's great you get a year out of it! Haha yeah the sides can't just be uneven... they HAVE to balance out XD. They said they would put me in a twilight sleep because I have a really hard time with needles, so hopefully I won't feel it Does pain medication help afterwards? Thank you!
I know some people they don't work at all but I am lucky they are long lasting. My Mom was one. I think since the arthritis is driven by the sarcoidosis inflammation (yeah its not quite considered rheumatoid as I have tested negative. but I hear its not uncommon for that to change later in the disease) It resembles osteo and gout on an x-ray. I do get flares. And it does tend to hit the opposite joint on the other side join in. It seems to mimic the rheumatoid in a lot of ways. And sadly it had moved into my pelvis bone-like Rheumatoid it goes to organs and lungs, and can even go into bones, and heart. Your toast if it moves there. So far that hasn't happened. But my hands are a knobby crooked mess. with the end joints the worst, but the seconds are not much better. I find using Pennsaid (DMSO mixed with anti inflammatory) helps to keep the fingers movable. But its expensive, one drop on the joint works a charm. Its the only anti inflammatory I can take with my kidneys.
They do have some great I don't care drugs, but with no one to drive me I tough it out. After my heart attack and all the blood testings any fear of shots is long gone-along with my modesty. I was really freaked out about having surgery on my face recently. Needles-face yikes. But I didn't even feel the shot. Like nothing. Really strange. But I sure as heck look away and think of butterfly's and rainbows. LOL
Yea, they seem to have lots of varying effects on different people. When were you last checked for rheumatoid? My fingers have started warping a bit, but my doctor said since we caught it so soon, they may go back after swelling goes down.
I had to get my blood checked every 3 weeks while I was on mtx, and every time, I had to look away. makes me sick to my stomach xP
It has been a while. I get tested about every 2 months while on the low dose methotrexate. But so far I am doing OK. He told me on most recent visit he wants to take me off and see if its gone into remission? I am all for it since I lose a day a week in feeling like crap. But all the B vitamins has hair and nails growing insanely fast.
ah, it did nothing for me for over 5 months. I'm glad it is working at least a little for you! I hope it has! Haha perks!
They are very helpful a specially if used with with a scanner as they can inject the direct spot where the problem is rather than just guess
Thank you! I'll ask if that is how they are planning on doing it
Hi I have had steroid injections in my knees and it did not work on me but everyone is different
Aw I'm sorry to hear that Have you found a different treatment that works for you?
I have fantastic results from the general one they give in backside. Also had one in my shoulder. I did not find the actual injection painful at all and all my pain and stiffness was almost gone in a matter of hours. Such a shame we can't have too many of them otherwise i would have them all the time. I do hope they work for you. Let us know.
That is great! I hope they do too I will!
Well you can see now that they do work for a good majority and you should have no pain. Make a sure you heed their advice. I have always been told to rest the joint I’ve had the injection in for 24 hours afterwards. If you don’t heed their advice you won’t reap the benefit of the injection. My experience tells me to rest a.s.a.p. And for as long as I can. I get good results. Good luck.
Haha I know! Never expected this many responses! I will rest. Thank you!
Hi, I have had them on my fingers, shoulders, hand, wrists, knees and hips. They do hurt when the med starts going in but try not to move and just focus on something while it is being administered. Also, drink a lot of water prior to the day(s) of the shot so your skin is hydrated. The shot doesn't hurt as much when you get poked. The cortisone shots did help me. However, they only help me for days and not weeks or months. But I will take any relief anytime!😄 Remember , everyone is different. Good luck, take care, stay positive and KEEP THE FAITH! ☺
Hello! I'm going to be put in twilight because I have a difficult time with needles, so I hopefully shouldn't feel anything Ooh, I hadn't thought of water. I'll do that. Only days! That's too bad. Haha yeah any relief is better than none! Thank you so much :))) Will do!
P.S. oh also, the first day you get your shot, take it easy, rest and don't over do it! Goodnight
If they are into joints they can help a little or a lot for a while. If it is a one off intramuscular I find one can be effective for a month or even 2, but the effect then gets less and shorter with each injection
Oh really? Good to know. Thank you!
I have had many steroids injections they work great but the relief only lasts about 4-6 weeks
That's too bad it doesn't last longer Thank you for your reply
I have had quite a lot over the last few years, both into joints (knees and toes) and general ones. They seem quite varied in what they do for me. Some have been wonderful and last up to three months, others last about four weeks. However, the last three I have had have done nothing for me at all so I wonder if they become less effective as time goes on.
Also it is variable in how much they hurt to have done, the general ones have never hurt. The worst one was one I had done into my knee about two years ago, but other ones in my knee have hardly hurt at all.
Good luck with yours and I hope all goes well and it helps with your pain.
Thank you for the info! I'm sorry they seem to not be as effective lately
I'm going to be in twilight because of me having a hard time with needles, so I (hopefully) shouldn't feel anything!
Thank you heaps!! Me too XD
I've had 2 injections. The 1st one at my GPs by MSK Specialist which only lasted 2 weeks then the 2nd one by the hospital which was guided using ultrasound which lasted about 7 weeks.....only wish it had lasted longer. A friend had hers & it lasted 3 months so like others say everyone is different. Yes it was painful both times but well worth it when they kick in.
It sounds like when they use the u.s. it works much better. I will definitely ask if they are planning on that. I'm sorry it was so short
Thank you
Hi SSlytherin
I’ve got one coming up, ultrasound guided into my left foot which has been changing shape rather alarmingly and tends to flare up when I’m suffering any viral infections, despite me being well controlled otherwise by Hydroxy and Benepali injections.
I’ve had Depomedrone into my bum which did absolutely nothing and I’ve had cortisone into my elbow as well as fluid aspirated from my elbow both of which were shockingly painful.
So if it’s a general steroid jab I would say not painful. Targeted yes but worth it because nothing matches the bone searing pain of RA.
Good luck to you and the others advice of rest after is good advice.
Mx
Hello!
Oh dear! I hope it helps! i've yet to found a medicine that controls mine. We're trying to see if my insurance will cover Orencia.
Mine are going to be targeted joints, but I'm going to be in twilight sleep as I have a difficult time with needles, so hopefully I will only feel the benefits How right you are! Not much at all compares.
Will do, Thank you!
They have always workled grreat for me .. the ones in the buttock and the ones in the joints. Joint injections usually give more long lasting relief. The general ones gend to wear off quicker but still can give much relief when you are in pain and have seized up joints etc.
Thank you! I'm getting joint-specific.
The relief after the steroid injection is worth the discomfort having the injection. Good luck 😉
Good to know! Thank you!
