hi have just come from docs I have a nasty chest infection, he couldn't remember if I could take my dose of mtx as well. We got side tracked and I left without an answer. I am due to take it today. The help line has just closed. Any thoughts or experience.
Thanks

I would not take it tonight and call your help line tomorrow to double check. Each time I have taken anit-biotics I have been advised not to take my meds, as said earlier double check.
I think you'd be wise to wait til the infection has cleared. However there are professionals on here - but also best to check with GP or rheumy hospital
Some are fine to take - I took two lots of antibiotics last year while continuing with MTX (my GP's checked but I wasn't prescribed Ethythromycin I'm afraid) but if you really aren't well then it's maybe best to leave it a week so your body has a chance to fight the infection enough. If you are desperate to take it if possible then you could phone NHS 24/ out of hours and ask because they can check for you. Tilda x
some anti biotics a problem with mtx,, erythromycin is not listed as one of them( reference source BNF.). please however take local advice if ever not sure of meds.. your local pharmacistor /Gp should be able to confirm this too for you x
nhs 24 hours is staffed by foreign nationals and students , wouldnt bank on them knowing sorry
I'm sure I've taken erythromycin before with MTX - I always consult pharmacists in supermarkets if I'm unsure - they're open later than normal chemists and I've found them to be really helpful in similar situations but make sure you ask to speak to the pharmacist.
Hi, I agree with the others you can give one of the late chemists a ring to check. Sos sorry you have a rotten chest just to add to your problems. Keep warm and drink plenty of fluids and hope you feel better soon. Sending hugs xx
