Does anyone have a problem with their toes overlappin... - NRAS
Does anyone have a problem with their toes overlapping? My toe next to my big toe overlaps bad and is soooo painful at times.
I think that sounds like what's called a hammer toe, could u ask ur rheumyto refer u for an ortho consultation?
I have hammer toes.I saw the podarist on monday and she has made me a thingy to put between my toes in a hope to straighten it. It looks like i will eventually have to an operation to put them right, which i dread. I will have to have special insoles put in my shoes, which she will look at next time.
Love sylvi. xx
Hi Cathy,
I also have overlapping toes, both feet. Came on gradually, hardly noticed, then suddenly, so it seemed, they were a mess!
I was at my Rheumatologist one time and at the end of our usual conversation, he suggested I see his in-house Physiotherapist, to see if he could pop my Sacro-iliac joint , to take pressure off the Sciatic nerve. First thing he says when he came in the room, was, "Well, I see you have RA" I asked how could he tell and he said it was my toes!
My left foot is the worst. Bunioned big toe leans way over to the third toe. The secon, third and fourth toes all lean over and cover the little toe. The third and fourth toes were hammer-toes years ago, still are, a bit less, now that they overlap the others. Right foot, same bunioned big toe, then second and third toes are hammertoes and the third, fourth and last toe are all squished together, looking like sausages packed together.
Biggest problem is finding decent shoes to accommodate, not only the higher hammertoes, but the overlapping on my left foot causes the shoe to need to be extra wide. Well, find attractive dress shoes to wear for my son's wedding and be able to stand in them! I did, I do like them, an inch and a half sort of stacked heel, wide toe box, nice arch support, two straps, very stylish, guess I could have done worse, at $149.99 The best part is, I wore them the entire day and evening and even danced, well that was a bit modified. I walk only with a walker, danced with my sons as long as they held me up ( I have no sense of balance) due to loss of vestibular function from a toxic dose of Gentamycin seven years ago.
I have seen two different Podiatrists, both recommended not doing any reconstructive surgery. Fine with me. I live alone. The rehab time would have been long and require use of crutches which I wouldn't dare try to balance on, or a wheelchair. Or the rehab hospital.
Yours sound maybe not that advanced, but good idea to see a Podiatrist and get his opnion. Maybe it can be fixed before it gets like mine!
I sure hope so, wish you well! God bless. Loret
Hey, yes, I had a problem with the toe next to my big toe on both feet. I had a podiatrist look at them, and a physio, both thought surgery or similar. Then I bought a "menthol toe post" from the House of Bath catalogue of all places, I think it cost about £5, and after a few months of wearing it my toes are in the right place again.
Obviosuly mine had only just started overlapping, but having the post in whilst wearing roomy comfy shoes gently pushed them back to the right position and wasn't an uncomfortable adjustment to make. Helped my poor balance too. Hope your toes go right again!
Thanks to everyone for the info....My doc says it from the tendons swelling and loseing elacticity..I know its a pain to paint my toe nails even with the things you put between your toes....have a great day everyone and thanks again for the info.......
