Hi Debs, I certainly had mine last year with advice from my GP with no ill effects. As the MTX lowers the immune system, it wouldn't be a great idea for us to get flu. Ali x

Same here. Take Ibuprofen and you can even keep that sore arm feeling from starting up.

It's normally recommend that you have your flu and pneumonia jabs when taking mthx, see your gp.

I had one a couple of weeks ago, with no ill effects (only a sore arm for a couple of days) I was on MTX and Sulphasalazine.

Hi Debs,

Its almost 8.30 Wednesday and I am at this moment waiting to go to see the nurse at my GP's surgery!

I had the flu jab and pneumonia jabs last year. The flu jab was the first time since I was in my teens (I am now an OAP)

I have been on mtx. (tablets) for years and have just gone onto retixumab infusions where they like you to have the flu jab before commencing the treatment. I definitely didn't have any reaction last year. Hopefully it will be the same this years.

Hi Debs, yes you must have flu jab while on MTX. I take Leflunomide and steroid injections and had mine in September as soon as it was available.

Disease Modifying Drugs reduce your immune system which puts you at risk of picking up infections, as your immune system doesn't work as well as it should these infections can become quite serious therefore, flu jabs are recommended for everyone with a reduced immune systems.

The flu jab doesn't hurt and your arm will be a little sore for a couple of days (nothing to bother you). It's much better than risking full blown flu and possibly being hospitalised!

Go get yours girl.

Yes you can, Deb. The flu jab is made with dead virus, so it's safe.
