dla help please
Tell it how it is on your worse day, maybe you'll have a real bad day at the appointment, secretly record it lol.
I hope it goes ok for you.??
Get advice from CAB disability welfare person. I know everyone says to "tell it like your worst day", but actually they want to know what it is like "most" days, and if your worst days are only few and far between that could be seen as exaggerrating. But definitely don't make it sound like things are less a problem that they really are - you do have to spell all your difficulties out really clearly and don't worry about repeating yourself on that. Definitely describe in minute detail how hard it is for you to do things, or if you can do things, describe how much pain you have while you do them.
Definately have a look at the website 'Benefits and work' if you just google it.
It's got nothing to do with the governments DWP. It helped me enormously.
When the Doctor comes to the house, they note everything down like, if you struggle to get out of a chair, watch you walk indoors and sometimes outdoors, ask you questions on how far you can walk before you need to stop, they have just reduced the distance able to walk to 'the length of two double decker buses' It was four or six, this is to be elligible for the mobility componement of DLA (PIP)
You must be going out to places regulary such as friends, hospital appointments, etc by either taxi or car and think about if you need someone to escourt you.
There is loads of info on the above site.
Have somebody there with you if you can, when the Doctors visits.
If you check out the questions on this site, there are quite a few re DLA and info on the Benefits and work website.
Good luck, just a thought! If they do turn you down, don't take it personally, i did. They are following a pattern of 'model' reasons to fail you. They are concentrating on new claimants first and put very few people through the first time they apply. This is the governments massive cull on benefits, it's sickening!!! You must appeal, there is evidence shown on the above website of people getting it on appeal. x
ty vonnie i have looked at this site i was on last nite couldnt get far though as i havnt paid yet will on soon though xxxxx
The NRAS has a guide to DLA, it gives you a good idea of the attitude you need to take.
You can't be at all positive about what you can do, and you can't lie about what you can't do or how difficult things are, but you can be brutally honest about how difficult the different aspects of your life are.
One thing you could do is list all the things anyone does during the day (bathing/showering, cooking, eating, dressing etc etc) and write down everything that is difficult or you cannot do - do not say what you can do in it at all, just leave that out. It's really depressing but you need to be focussing on the negative just for now.
