Hi Everyone, I hope you are all as well as can be, I have been referred from my Rheumy nurse to attend the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, I will be seen by 3 health care professional and it will take at least 3 hours, this will be a opportunity for me to discuss all aspects of my condition, I will have the chance to talk to several professional, this will be a Practitioner, Physiotherapist and a occupational therapist,
My appointment is on the 5th March,
I was just wondering if any of you have been lucky enough to be referred and what your experiences were like, Look forward to hearing from you all...

I am so jealous.. your are luckly I WOULD like to go there on NHS it is meant to be v good, I mihgt have a private consult if necessary there, funding and provision v poor in my county, my gp ADMITS as much.. she says I can be transferred but that it is"difficult"

Hi Shirlthegirl I was diagnosed with RA in December and since then it has been a constant stream of appointments so I guess my health board, and certainly reading other posts, are pretty good. I saw my rheumy nurses within three weeks and was referred immediately to Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy so am receiving the treatment from the NHS. I know I was fairly reluctant to go to any, and not sure I can quite explain why, however I spent two hours with the occupational therapist on Monday and what a difference it has made to my life. I am so looking forward to the next visit with her. First appt with the physio is next week so if she can help me the way Rheumatolgy OT has done for the moment I can cope with this disease. So guess what I am saying is it is wonderful that you are getting the whole team together, be open minded about their suggestions, embrace them, try them and see if it helps. I think you you will be fairly exhausted after a long session like that but am certain you will find it of great benefit. Let us know how you get on. Xx
I used to go to this hospital, totally specialist. It's improved a lot, there's a new building and staff have responded to this I think. I saw one of the consultants there, can tell you about him privately he was a life saver for me. Always calm, careful, reassuring. The daycare unit where I had my anti tnf was similarly excellent, headed by this very lovely nurse who brought a personal touch to things. They'd be flexible and try to accommodate problems but were always very scrupulous. You should be in very safe hands - I stopped going there in about 2008 so it has been a while, that's my only caveat.
They have their own hydro pool too so if that's your thing ask for that.
And it's 100% nhs tho some of the consultants will see you offsite privately. I was referred by my GP but it was my local hospital. There would be people coming from far away, including one from the Isle of Wight. My mother who lived near Swindon went there too.

I am so pleased you have been offered this appointment and really hope it is helpful for you. I have been with NOC in Oxford for many years and only last year did I discover, quite by accident, that physio, OT and hydro were available via the rheum dept! I've been going there for so long that I think they just asssumed I knew and forgot to tell me! Anyhoo, to cut a long story short, I had 2 weeks intensive physio/hydro/OT and it was a realy eye opener (in a good way). I was in a really bad state at the time and what sticks in my mind was the lovely OT who sat with me for ages, holding my hand, making me tea and listening whilst I "howled". Having felt so on my own with things for so long it was just lovely to have the opportunity to talk to someone who had time to do more than just count sore joints and dish out meds. It also opened up other avenues which I didn't know existed - like being able to self-refer for physio if needed, rather than having to go via the GP.
I don't know if Cathie's consultant was the same as mine but mine was an absolute life-saver for me too. The downside is that you can't guarantee to see him every time and he doesn't consult privately.
Cathie - I am fairly sure that you and I used to chat when we had our Infliximab infusions many years ago and the "lovely nurse" you refer to is still in charge of the day unit and still just as good!
Hiya i believe that this is only a one day appointment, As i live in Banbury and not in Oxford, but i will be continuing my physio afterward which will be in Banbury, I am really glad that i have been given this opportunity and i wished a lot more of you would of been given this chance to,
NOH is for the whole area and not just for Oxford so if you find it's agood environment I'm sure you could be referred. I'm sure I remember you Tilly so will message you shortly
That is so good! You are so lucky! Its the way all outpatient clinics really should be run, but few are. Make the most of it, and if anyone offers to see you or give you any help, take it!
