Anything is possible, but I wouldn't think that wouldn't be a common side effect. Might be a good idea to phone your rheumatology nurse and see what they say. I've never had the slightest bit of drowsiness from NSAIDs.

Yes, though not common, it is a side effect of medications "Naproxene" related.

Advil, Aleve, etc...

Thanks Earthwitch...... probably just general tiredness setting in or the thought of working all weekend!

Thanks Woolly - Definitely think its me!

Hello Sandle, I find it makes me very tired too - 500mg sr naproxen - I used to take it in the morning before going to work but i felt really heavily sleepy so i stopped. I used to think it was taking both cocodamol and naproxen but even with just the naproxen i feel drowsy so take the cocodamol in with me. Always scared that i could get done for drugged up driving.

I take them at night with cocodamol and am usually guaranteed a good nights sleep for the first 4/5 hours though have very dry mouth and aftertaste in morning.

Thanks Mads,

I know what you mean about the drugged up driving part....I am sure if I was stopped I would have a hard time convincing them I only take legal drugs!! The list is ever increasing at the moment....

Dont get me wrong tho, I am safe to be driving before anyone reports me to the traffic cops!! LOL

thanks Neverwell, am going to persevere with them for a few weeks at least as I really want some relief from the swelling and pain in my hands. x

cocodamol is far more likely to cause drowsiness because of the codeine in it.

Hi, doesnt make me drowsy but I dont take it very often. RA in general makes me tired but not drowsy as such. Agree cocodameine makes me drowsy and very nauseous so wont be taking that any more.

Hi Sandie,

I've just started taken it, and about an hour after taking it in ready to drop! I feel asleep yesterday, I'm off work with a bad back, a prolapsed disc, as I type this, I can feel my eyes are super heavy. My dad takes it, and has no side effects, so I'm assuming it effects each person differently x

Morning littlelizzie & welcome to this great site. I'm sure you'll find it a helpful way of communicating with others with your problems. I hope you don't mind if I offer you a little help with regards to replying, it'll make sense when you read on further.

My guess is you used the search box to look for naproxen & drowsiness. The post you replied to was an old one & the last reply was a year ago except for one made a month ago, also by a newbie member. You'll note they had no response to the reply as it was no longer relevant to the thread. Given the period of time since the original post the probability is any problems will have been addressed & therefore no longer relevant. However, if the post or question is ongoing or more recent you're experience on here will be a better one & you'll receive responses.

I hope you don't think I'm interfering, I only wish you to get the best out of this community. It's a really good source of information & I find it invaluable communicating with others in the same boat as me. Hope you do too & look forward to seeing you posting your questions or replies & or even unrelated things!

I have a feeling nomoreheels is going to lecture me too.

Not at all but disappointed it was thought of that way! :( Nevertheless, welcome Prengs. Not a lecture, that's not my intention, only attempting to be helpful to a new member who wouldn't necessarily realise all you read above. It has happened pretty regularly & would guess is disappointing when first posting when nobody responds as unless used to communities like this it may not be recognised that a question is, as in this instance, a year old & a thread has naturally ended, especially if needing a reply, which wasn't the case in her instance. You will notice though that although you thought of it as such littlelizzie didn't receive any response & no others posts have appeared since. As I said I only wish newbies to get the best out of the community. ;)

I can't take Aleve because it makes me so tired. I actually slur my words and feel like I've been tranquillized. It must be an allergy or our body metabolizes the drug differently then the average person. I have opposite reactions to a few other drugs (Benadryl makes me hyper, pseudophed makes me sleepy, adderall relaxes me, ect.) so I truly think it's just the way my body metabolizes things. Take Advil instead....unless you need to sleep. :)

Yes, yes, yes. Though this is not a common side effect, it is very real.

Make sure to tell your doctor if you are having this reaction to any type of Naproxen related medications.. NSAID's, Aleve, Advil, etc.

There are many substitutions. :)

Hope this helps
