Good afternoon everyone... I am going to have to make a dentist appointment tomorrow, as i woke up yesterday with a rotten pain....., This morning/afternoon, things have got worse, I have already taken 4 paracetamols and 4 Tramadol, but i am still in quite a bit of pain, Have been trying to get a couple of hours sleep with no luck, I haven't had any problems with my teeth for years, Quite good at regular check ups.....Just a quick question, I will properly either need a new filling, or a crown put in, as it is quite a old tooth, If it is just a infection, and he believe that antibiotic will be enough Because of my latest blood results, and that the GP wouldn't give me them when i had the flu until i had another test done, Do you think that i should take them? Also if i have to have a injection, to have work done, would they do these with the meds i am on? I know is might seem silly question, but i know how knowledgeable you all are? Thanks xxx

Hi Shirl - sorry to learn that you are having toothache - especially at New Year of all times. I can't really answer your question but your dentist should know the answer really - he or she will look it up for you and you can explain about RA, MTX and your liver worries. But I think sorting your tooth out is a priority as your liver wasn't off the scales last time although it's important they know what drugs you've been taking and are hoping to take again. Tilda x

Make sure you take an up to date list of all your meds into the dentist and make sure they check it properly and understand what all the meds are, as well as being clear that you have RA. If they don't have much experience of what should be done, insist that they contact the rheumatologist before they give you any drug treatment.

Just out of interest, are you sure its a tooth problem? I have had a lot of experience of this, from years back, and it took a long time for me to realise that sometimes what I was sure was tooth pain was coming from my TMJ joint (the jaw joint, which can refer pain down to your teeth). On some occasions it was quite possibly referred sinus pain too, as clearing my sinsuses properly plus having antibiotics fixed it totally without doing anything to the tooth. But, sometimes it is the tooth too, so good that you are seeing the dentist.

hi hope the toothache is now cured. Nothing worse than that for pain. I suffrered for 4 months with raging toothache due to a broken tooth which the hospital had to take out and had antibiotics for all that time without any side effects.

My dentist has a list of the meds I am on. I have an injection for fillings or crown work (just had a crown fitted) - never had any sort of reaction. There is a special antibiotic they can put you on if you are on MTX but I was told by my consultant that Amoxicillen is fine with MTX and I am on the highest dose of 25 mcg. I am on Amoxicillen at present because of a chest infection so have stopped taking the MTX this week - body can't fight 2 things at the same time!
