I have RA, OA, hiatus hernia, diverticulitis and every time i eat a meal, It seems like the food won't go down. And I am very full. And after I sleep for a couple of hours at night, I become severely nauseated and throw up just bile. I would love to hear from anyone that has these problems. I am going nuts.

Hi Donna - you are not mad, I had exactly this a few months ago. I couldn't swallow well and eating anything other than soup was a struggle. My stomach becam very hard and distended and my GP sent me for an urgent endoscopy & colonoscopy. Not pleasant but it found the problem. The large dose of steroids I'd been taking had caused an infection in my oesophogus and colon. It was a thrush type infection and apparantly common with long term steroids. I was given 2 weeks of flumocine (?) and things cleared up quickly. Do go to your GP and ask for explorities. I left it so long I was bringing up blood which prompted me but I should have acted sooner.

Good luck

Thanks Sue for the heads up. I am seeing my Gp next week and will look into it. Did they find the infection by doing the endoscopy and colonoscopy ?? Hope all is well with you now. Thanks so much for responding.

It does sound like some form of reflux to me and you should go and see the GP soon. Could well be the drugs you are on I agree. Or it might also be gallstones as I have them and when I'm having a flare I get a mix of irritable bowel, terrible pain in upper abdomen and reflux (ie bring stuff up).

Haven't had any gallstone pain for ages which i put down to my much new healthier diet and also think the gallstones have probably got too big to travel about causing mayhem as they used to! Worth asking about gall and kidney stones. Also food intolerance, especially wheat or dairy, might be the problem because my sister in law gets this sort of thing if she eats any wheat at all. TT

Hi Donna - sorry for the delayed reply but having a restful weekend with bad hands !

Yes, the endoscopy showed up an infection immediately and the doctor took a biopsy through the same endoscopy tube to determine what the infection was. The result was within a couple of days so no hanging about waiting & worrying.

Good luck with the GP.

Seek a gastoentologist. (SP) I had some intestine repair when I couldn't keep things down. I LOVED the weight loss! Not the way to do it though! My Doc said I had ulcer damage. Interesting because I never was diagnosed with ulcers. We are one tough crowd when it comes to pain!

Hi Trixie, that is just the problem with us here, we have so much pain and then we learn to deal with it. And that is why our treatments get thown to the wayside. We say to ourselves that it is just RA and don't get things checked out enough. Have a great day.
