Joint aches and weather changes

Hi, friends!

As a person with RA I often experience joint aches during weather changes. When the sun follows the rain and vice versa, I sense it even before it happens. Has anybody else similar experience?

rain! I get much more achy when its going to rain. They say a change of more than 10 degrees affects RA sufferers. (whoever 'they' are)

I haven't got the weather thing yet but i have only been diagnosed a year and look forward to seeing some kind of pattern!

Yes I feel the dampness. Also a big improvement when I moved from the Thames basin to east coast Scotland weather may not be Mediterranean but it is invigorating

vicky, hi, yes i know when its going to rain. I had a ra nurse who sadly died a couple of months ago and she told when i had come back from spain in agony that the extreme changes in tempreture will affect ra. I always seem to be stiff when its going to rain. I've got it more now as i've got fibro as well.

Hi Vicky,

Yes, the weather really affects me too! Dry heats not too bad but hot humid or damp weather makes me ache more! My consultant said there's an old saying; ”I can feel it in my bones' and its true!

Hi Vicky,

My consultant told me that the synovial fluid in your joints act as a barometer because it is affected by changes in air pressure. So the old wives' tale of "feeling it in your bones" happens to be true!

Yes, if find that humidity affects joints. If it is raining or very humid then they ache far more than on a dry day.

Thank you all for the feedback! I was suspecting that joint ache and weather changes are positively related. I also think that CatherineL's consultant is right when he says that the synovial fluid acts as a barometer. It seems that air pressure and not the humidity or the cold is the main reason for the problem since I feel achy even when hot weather succeeds cold (only during the change).
