mtx: been taking mtx tablets for two years now and just... - NRAS
mtx
Think you can become intolerant to it. Injections less side effect. Ask your doctor. They suit me much better.
Good luck

Hi Chalky - I was fine on oral dose until I was moved up to 17.5 with Hydroxy as well and then I just got terribly sick - not just the day after but all the time for about 4 days each week. Came down to 15 and things were fine but the RA got a bit dodgy again so yesterday I had my first injection. Of course we are all different but I can tell you that today I feel far, far better than I ever have after the pills. I have no disgusting, rotten taste in my mouth and my horrible low feeling has lifted. I'm tired but that might well be because I took an Amitriptyline last night. I've had horribly low days after MTX for 10 months of taking it now so it's great to not have this and not have the foul taste too! Hope this helps you decide. Tilda x
I think you should certainly discuss a swap in your meds with the rheumatologist. You have enough to cope with having ra without putting up with weeky nausea. Best of luck x
I've been on mtx for over 5yrs. I take mine in 2 doses sat and sun as it wiped me out.
i take folic acid tues, wed and thurs and supposedly helps relieve the sickness.
regards,
sandra.
Don't split the dose at all without asking your consultant first because it can lessen the effectiveness or even be dangerous. My consultant said only to do this if the spit is done within 12 hours and he didn't think it would make any difference to my nausea levels. Tilda
Thanks folks i have just phoned the Hospital and now waiting for phone call back
HI, just something else to consider - do you know if you have been given a generic (unbranded) form of mtx tablets? I find that there is one particular unbranded version (light yellow, very flat tablet, no markings, no 2.5g inscribed on it) that makes me very nauseous, in fact I seem to have been given them at the pharmacy this time as I am suffering in a similar way to you. I have been on mtx on and off for over 10 years and I now know that there is a particular generic version that I can't tolerate. I've been told that it may be something to do with the binding agents. Only a thought. Hope you get something sorted as feeling sick is terrible.
Possibly not a generic then, might just be my PCT saving money. I didn't think they were still allowed to dispense the 10mg tablets?! I am also on 20mg but have to have them in 2.5 mg so end up taking a small handful of them! Kind regards.
