Methotrexate: is anyone else on this medication i... - NRAS
Methotrexate
We have lots of posts./ questions on this!, and it is a miserable feeling.. firstly are you taking folic acid on every day except the methotrexate day as this can help with the side effects.. also there are several anti sickness meds you can try?
I personally ie personal use and professionally recommend domperidone or ondestron as two of the best anti sickness medications.

I would add to what Alison has said, that maybe the longer you are on it the side effects will lessen, hopefully anyway, I luckily have had no side effects from this med and take folic acid 5 mg once a week, actually on a tues and then 20 mg ( 2 x 10s) mtx on a friday. Good sleep Friday night & nap Saturday afternoon then able to Rock Saturday nite! haha!
Good luck, Gina.
I've been on methotrexate for more than five years. Had dreadful effects on my guts - rushing to the loo half an hour after eating. These reactions have calmed down. Quite a lot. Dramatically. So it is worth persevering but also check with your professionals.
Hope you find something that suits you

Hi Ords, I also inject MTX - 15 mg - it took a few weeks for the sickness/nausea to wear off but now don't have any sickness at all. I also take folic acid on every day except the MTX day and that does help. Suggest you have a chat with your Rheumy Nurse/Consultant or GP re folic acid. Also check your MTX dosage - it could be too high. I had to come down to 15 mg as my original dose of 20 was too high and I did get horrendous side effects.
How long have you been on the injections? If it is fairly recent, then I would suggest your body is still getting used to it. It is a highly toxic drug and is used in cancer patients as an anti cancer drug, so it is bound to have one or two nasty surprises up its sleeve. Persevere with it but do speak to your doctors/nurses about it. Good luck. LavendarLady x
Horrible stuff, but without it, I would be in a bad place, sickness, wind, dry eye all not nice, but no methotrexate and things would be a lot worse.

thanks for all your comments they are helpful i have been on mtx for 7 years now and i take folic acid take anti sickness tab i have been in a lot of pain all week think its due to stress of losing my dad 5weeks ago i had to reduce mt intake of mtx by 5mg i am now on 20mg but i think you are right i might need to reduce it more as its making me feel so ill having a word wiv my ruma nurse when she calls me back see what she says ords
Hi Ords. So sorry to hear about your dad. I know what a blow that is as I lost my dad 5 years ago and I miss him so much for his wisdom, his love, his kindness and always being there for me. he missed the first few years of my life as constantly abroad with the RAF (He was medical so went all over the place) and I think that made us very close.
The stress of that and the grief will add stress to your already stressfuil life with the RA.
Hope you get a good result from your Rheumy Nurse. LavendarLady x
I have found a piece of liquorice helps a bit but also not always...
