Has anyone heard about having your tear ducts in the lower eye blocked to stop the tears from flowing down your nose and giving you more fluid in your eyes?

No sorry can't help never heard of this x hope you get your eyes sorted soon take care x

If a doctor has suggested this as a way of making your eyes less dry and it is an established procedure then it sounds quite a good idea to me?

thank you, i wasn't sure. Have to say the eye he put it in is better than the other eye. Sylvia

I really feel for you Sylvi - my eyes are always a bit dry and I have to say that having this problem with the RA is one of my biggest fears. Re your previous question on pastimes I find singing is a pretty good tonic - is there a small singing group or choir you could join locally if you do like music and singing? Even if you play music and sing along as loudly as you are able it might be cathartic? Always makes me feel better anyhow - as in the Sound of Music!!

Hi Sylvi

It is a recognised procedure and not too traumatic for you. I used to work in Ophthalomolgy! They do the reverse of it regulalry to unblock the tear duct!

I can also concur with Tilda - I play in two bands and it has been my salvation. Sometimes I struggle to hold my instrument up but I keep ging none the less.

I am also going to join Rock Choir locally - very informal and run nationally.

Good luck with your eyes - I'm sure it will be worth it and ease the discomfort.

love from Caroline

Hi Sylvi

Yes I have been referred for the same procedure - punctal plugs - due to my eyes being so dry and hence now also having various eye problems. I have tried various eye drops but am now using a new one called Systane Gel Drops (appx £9) from a good optician which is working better than other stuff at the mo!

Let me know how you get on

All the best

Lindsay

Hi Sylvie

Sorry for my delay in replying, I have dry eye syndrome caused by the RA the inflamation gets to the little ducts and veins as well as the joints. Iv'e been seing an ophamologist, and i have viscoe tear drops for the day and lactlube for overnight as in the morning my eyes have been sticking to the lid and have been very painful opening them. The drops and ointment both on prescription have solved the problem this time without the need for surgery. Although the eye doc said it was an easy procedure.

Good luck to you.

I've had a temporary one put in my left eye, it has made so much difference that when i was down the hospital today i asked to have the other one done. I've got to go down friday and see the nurse and she is going to speak to the doctor concerned. If nothing i will ask him to put me on the list to have it done permantly. Only right eye is sore now, and i can see a difference. Wouldn't have believed it myself, now i can't wait to get the job done and get some normality back in my life.

Thank you everyone who has answered my question.

Sylvia. x
