Our runners are fab!

What a great weekend we had! Our annual NRAS 10k run took place last Sunday in the beautiful grounds of Hughenden Manor in High Wycombe. It was rather an early start for the Fundraising team as we had to be ready for action by 7.00 am!

The weather was kind to our runners, not one drop of rain fell, however, the ground was incredibly damp and most runners came through with incredibly muddy legs! The first runner came through in just 38 minutes – a pretty fast time! Our team of NRAS runners helped to raise a fantastic £4,211 – a great achievement on top of having completed a 10k run! Thank you to everyone who took part and helped to make it such a success.

Next year’s race will take place on Sunday 8th July so watch out for entry details on our website.

A group of supporters took part in the Lands End to John O’Groats cycle ride at the end of June and raised over £11,000 for NRAS. Graham Robertson and team decided to take on the challenge earlier in the year to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Graham says ‘the highs were the adrenalin rush when setting off on the first day and then the sensation at the top of our first climb and realising there were no more serious ‘ups’ left – at least until the following day! Singing ‘Delilah’ whilst going through a dark tunnel and finally finishing at John O’Groats and not caring that the rain was pouring down! A hugh thank you goes to the team for all they achieved.

Our runners are now stepping up a gear as the date of the Great North Run approaches ever nearer. Our team of 26 are all well on their way to achieving their end goal of completing a half marathon. Ailsa, our Chief Executive is taking part in her wheelchair with her trusty team of ‘pushers’. If you would like to sponsor them please visit uk.virginmoneygiving.com/te... .

Our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge which takes place on the 3rd September is steadily filling up. This is a very popular challenge with most people completing it in under 12 hours. Last year two of our members took part and whilst they found the trek very challenging they were very glad they took part. Please visit our website for details on this year’s challenge.

On a final note I can’t quite believe our Christmas cards are being delivered to our offices on Wednesday 20th July! Soon you will be able to buy them from our e-Bay shop so please do visit our website and follow the link to our online shop.

If you would like to take part in any of our organised events, or perhaps you are organising an event of your own, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at val@nras.org.uk or by phone on 01628 501547 as I would love to hear from you. Visit our website at nras.org.uk We might even let you have one of our NRAS running vests/t-shirts to wear!
