My right hand is feeling much better, but now I went & messed up my left one.
After being so stiff yesterday, that I stayed in all day, I borrowed my Dad's hedge trimmer & all was going good. I was done, then saw one more branch & somehow got my left hand in the way. Man, I was scared! I lopped off the very tip of my pointer finger & have 2 gashes in my ring finger (my last good finger). I almost didn't go to the Dr, but 2 hours later it started bleeding again so I called my GP. They said to come in immediately and I ended up with 4 stitches and a tetanus shot. I cannot believe that I did this. Ugh.
I have become so clumsy-in my hands. My exercising hasn't been helping them like it helped my back & legs & feet.
It is really hard to type, so I'll just read posts for a few days. I really am going to have to hire someone to do my yard work, I guess.

Christine, what are you like. Mind you thats the sort of thing i would do. Next time get someone in to do it for you. I have a ecualipytus tree and it needed cutting so i wouldn't let my hubby go up and do it,my next door neighbour had a man come in and do her trees so i got him to come in and do mine. You could always get a teenager to come and do it for you. How are feeling now,i know it will be sore. You must rest up now and don't go and do anything.
You take care and enjoy the good weather if your getting any.
oh my god Christine how awful I but your fingers are throbbing! Be careful and next time do as Sylvie says and get someone in to do the tree trimming for you. Hope you feel better soon. Xx
I'm new on here. Diagnosed RA last summer and trying to come to terms with it.
I'm sorry to hear of your accident. It's just the sort of thing I would do!
Just do one more bit, and oops! Gone too far!
I really hope you can get some relief for any pain/discomfort as soon as possible.
Best wishes. Take care.
Ouch!! What a horrible injury to have happen. You've really not had much luck in the garden lately. Hope your fingers heal soon and you're able to get back to typing. Take care
Scary....but at least you went and got the stitches in the end so hopefully it will heal quickly. I think your dad might have to ban you from using power tools from now on. I'm just about to brave getting the mower out so I'm going to think of you and be extra extra careful. Take care. Polly
Oh my gosh, Christine! I know what you're doing--you are trying to be as normal as you used to be and just like everybody else.
Afraid I am guilty of the same. Fortunately, I don't need any power tools around this condo, the Maintenance crew takes care of it all.
Just be careful you don't get an infection in it! Lxxx
Hi Christine, blinking good job your right hand has seen some improvement - have you got something against the left one? Hope it's not too sore today.
(Of course it may be you just fancy your GP and if you can't see him about one hand, you can see him about the other).
Seriously though, with or without RA you could have done the same thing, it's just more important that you don't hesitate in seeing your GP (because of the meds you will be taking for RA which lower the immune system).
The weather we have had lately has made everything get a growth spurt on (even the weeds) and we just can't help ourselves and need to get out in the garden (I was trimming down a shrub myself yesterday .......... I was using manual clippers - nag nag nag).
I will be going out there again any minute now to cut the shrub down a bit more - I would have managed it all in one go 'pre-RA' but have to be grateful for small mercy's (<- ? spelling doesn't look right). Nowadays I need a stool to sit on and wrist supports and work at a snails pace but hey, at least it gets done .... eventually and I feel much better for being outside.
