Hi, any recommendations please?

I can't do this typing malarky at the moment, so would love to hear people's experiences.

My partner suggests Dragon Naturally Speaking, which he says is expensive, but there are so free ones which you can find on the go-on website in the digital champion area. (Can you tell he is a techy and looking for anything to help me. :) I'm very lucky)

There's a voice activation option in Windows 7. Go to the Control Panel, then the Ease of Access Center. I've used it and it works OK. I haven't used Dragon, so I can't compare.

Yes, I had an external mike. I didn't use it really thoroughly, so I still had to do some editing by hand afterwards, but I used it if I had to write long documents to save some hand ache.

Thanks Dotty, perhaps that is my problem no external mike.

My next door neighbour uses voice activiation and swears by it (scuse the pun!) as she has terrible trouble with hands. So prob. worth doing.
