Possible Sjogrens

Hi everyone

I’ve had problems with my jaw for the last three years and it was diagnosed as TMJ. I had an appointment with my maxillofacial consultant this week who saw how swollen my face was next to my ears/jaw. It’s been very painful too. She now feels that it could be my parotid glands inflamed and did this manoeuvre on my face to try to get saliva to move from the saliva gland into my mouth. She couldn’t get any to come out on the left side and hardly any on the right. It was so painful while she did it!!

She then asked a few questions about having a dry mouth, which I do all the time. Plus dry nose. She suspects I have Sjogrens now and she is running some blood tests and I’m having an mri to see what’s going on in my jaw and face.

I’ve seen this condition mentioned a few times on this group. If it does turn out to be that, what are your experiences of having Sjogrens? This would be my third autoimmune condition 🙄🙄

hello I have had this jaw problem last few weeks and prior to that extreme dry parched mouth and eyes especially on waking, please let me know which blood tests you are having done and results, I dint know what a maxifacial consultant is, would lie to know that as well thank you, am on prednisone now for 9 yrs diagnosed with pmr in 2016

Hi Arvine,

Sorry to hear you have jaw problems too, they aren’t nice! The consultant has added lots to the blood form so I’m not sure specifically which relates to Sjogrens. A Maxillofacial consultant deals with complex dental issues, as well as the jaw and other face problems. I didn’t realise how complicated the face and jaw were! It might be worth going to your gp to discuss the problems you are having.
