RA and Collarbone pain: Hi, anyone out there with RA... - NRAS
RA and Collarbone pain

I think you will find with RA, most people, get aches and pains in Joints all over. Most of these come & go of their own accord. if any particular pain lasts a long time, have a word with your rheumy nurse…or ask your pharmacist to recommend some rub on gel.
I had collar bone pain for many years which began when I was in my late twenties. I had what looked like bilateral ganglions at the centre of my collar bone. They were tender and ached. I had enlarged lymph nodes in my chest near them as the nodes were fighting the inflammed joints. My rheumatologist used to give me steroid injections there. I had similar lumps on my knees and wrist bones. The ones on my knees used to lock, so I had surgery to remove them about 30 years ago. I was told the ones on my wrists would 'rot'. I use the term described by the rheumatologist. They have now rotted away. The ones on my collar bone have now rotted away too. I am now in my late 70s and knees beginning to play up again. Medication is so much better today. My joints have become deformed by rheumatoid over the years. It is still active but the rate has slowed down .
had my left clavicle ac joint resurfaced and sc joint injected with steroid . I’ve also had both my shoulders repaired from RA . cuffs , tendons and tears all repaired . They are just starting to play up again after a few years of comfort ,, as are my knees and most my other joints I had a lot of sternum pain and was diagnosed with SAPHO syndrome although I’m not sure about that my self . All we can do is fight each battle day by day and try to live the best possible life we can , I still teach and train in martial arts daily and refuse to give up as I’m very passionate about it . Good luck and keep fighting there is always an answer to this pain we endure we just have to keep looking for the answer 👍
I had sharp pain travelling the length of my collar bone which turned out to be tendon damage caused by RA. This was only found when I had an ultrasound on my shoulder after months of pain and being sent for physio to ‘cure’ the problem. The tendons in the shoulders seem to be more suceptible to to RA damage and I think this is often overlooked by rheumatologists.
I have often had painful joints at either, or both, ends of the collar bone. I tend to get it around the same time as the joints between the ends of the ribs and the breastbone, but not always. I found a NSAI gel helps a bit rubbed in morning and night, but sometimes it needs an increase in medication to settle down the inflammation.
I thought it might be from gardening (which I love), but I've found it sometimes just comes out of the blue when I haven't done any because of the weather. Muscular tension also seems to trigger it - so I do true to relax my shoulders and chest and do deep breathing exercises. Hope that helps.
yes but note my diagnosis is unusual, I use heat pads until I need pain relief
