Yes, you will get ear problems with Sinusitis…. Think about the specialty EAR,NOSE & THROAT, The inflammation from your nose has probably drifted through your eustachian tube to your ears!
Don’t worry it’s quite a few frequent occurrence.
Just speak to your GP about it if it doesn’t clear in a couple of weeks.
As aged crone says it’s common as the ears are connected to the nasal passages. I have chronic sinus issues, due to inflammation filtering from the jaw, which is always inflamed. I’ve seen several ENT consultants over the years. I use a steroid nasal spray to keep it under control, and do daily sinus washouts with a Neilmed sinus wash. This helps keep it under control.
Thanks for getting back, l’ve never had this before, lm worried because my hearing today has got really bad, l’ve not had any pain with all this , nothing seems to to come down my nose it all seems to come down the back into my throat, very dry mouth although I do have sorgens as well, sorry to go on so much l started Benepali 9 months ago just wondering if that can cause it Kate x
Sinusitis is a common result of most biologics. I’ve been on it 8yr, and I already had lots of jaw, sinus, ear and cheeks giving me pain, before starting benepali. I seen an Oral Medicine Consultant at Guys, who said all the symptoms were due to filtering out from the jaw to nearby structures. They increased my MTX which improved the symptoms considerably. Then ENT prescribed the steroid nasal spray, which I’ve been on for years. Recently seen another ENT and had a CT of my sinuses and my neck. The neck was done because I was getting laryngospasms, which I still get though not as often. The ENT consultant assured me that despite having a green nasal discharge, I didn’t have an ongoing infection, just uncontrolled inflammation. So she insisted I continue with the nasal spray and sinus washes. I don’t see it ever disappearing unfortunately 🤗
Hi Kate. I also have Sjorgen's. Post nasal drip and dry mouth are very common with this. It's awful I know. I have both, as well as pulmonary fibrosis and collagenous colitis and reflux. It's a tough combination as medication for one problem sometimes exacerbates another. Nasal spray and dry mouth gels can help a little. I hope you get some relief soon.
I have regular sinus issues since taking methotrexate like others I use the netti nasal washes or go to gp when bad not needed antibiotics however had a massive issue after a cold last year probably did need them but stupidly soldiered on
I use a cheap facial sauna I bought from Argos to steam my face and that really helps. I used to put things like eucalyptus oil in it but I just use plain water now. In the past I have used a neti pot, NeilMed and Sterispray.
I try to avoid antibiotics and steroid sprays if possible although sometimes I have to take them. Sinusitis affects my ears and makes my teeth hurt too. It really is horrible.
Hi. I am on Methotrexate tablets and Amgevita injections and got a respiratory/very dry sore throat and dry cough at the beginning of February. I had trouble with blocked sinuses before then, (since starting the Amgevita) but 5 weeks on and still got the dry throat/cough and blocked sinuses. I was also prescribed antibiotics as I developed a chest infection too. I use Sterimar, a natural nasal spray which was recommended by the GP. I was told that the steroid nasal sprays can damage the lining of your nose.
