Oral methotrexate versus injection
I changed from oral methotrexate to injections because I was getting abdominal pain. Also like you I was taking Lansoprazole.I have been on injections for several years now and no longer am I troubled by abdominal pains and I no longer take lansoprazole. Let’s hope if you change to injections you will have as good a result as me. Happy Christmas
I have been on hydrochloriquine for PR for several years antoday was diagnosed with seronegative RA. I discussed stomach issues with my doctor and she said I could do the injections. She seemed to think I’ll be better off as fosomax wrecked my gut and naproxen compounded the issue.
I found MX injections easier than those tiny fiddly pills! And improved my abdominal symptoms.
MTX by injection misses out the gut, obviously, and I found it far better for many years. You also get the benefit of it being more effective as you do not lose some of the dose in your digestive process.
The injection pens make it an easy way to take MTX.
hi, I had problems with oral methotrexate which gave me nausea. I switched to injection which obviously avoids the stomach, and problem resolved. Also bear in mind that your body recognises this toxin in your stomach and will filter some of it out, whereas via injection (although still a toxin) the full dose goes straight into your body. Lansoprazole kills stomach acids which are needed for digestion. Therefore longtime use will encourage indigestion. If you switch to injecting MTX, you should be able to lay off the lansoprazole and the indigestion will then resolve. Just a suggestion, good luck and best wishes.
Thanks all that's a chat with rheumatology nurse then.
Sorry, but I am on the injections, not the oral.
