Swollen feet and legs relief?

Seeds2sow profile image
10 Replies

Hello. First time I have posted on this site although I find it both interesting and useful. I suffer from swollen legs and feet and residual vasculitis as well as RA causing painful feet and ankles. I have had various screening processes for oedema cause but without any clear diagnosis.

I am considering buying an electric foot massager and wondered if anyone has experience of these and their effectiveness.

I would appreciate any comments

Kind regards

here's a link to an article about foot massage

medicalnewstoday.com/articl...

They advise caution and gentleness and results are not certain. I can't find anything that says it's definitely beneficial, sorry!

Elevation (above heart level - wow - although I find lesser elevation does help) seems to be the only thing that works.

Thanks for your reply and the medical news ref. I think I will stick with my own gentle massage and leg elevation for now. ( If you elevate to above heart level, do you also have to elevate your bum so the flow gets a straight run down?? Just a facetious thought)

Hi S2S, my hubby has amongst other things RA, Rheumatoid Vasculitis and Peripheral Neuropathy. He has tried foot massagers, TENS and an electronic butterfly shaped device (can't think of name). None have worked, nor have creams or anything else we have tried including various vitamins and B12 injections. Everyone is different though so perhaps it might help for you. Here's hoping 🤞.

Thanks sunshineday for your reply and information. I think I am going to continue with my own massage and leg elevation. So easy to be enthused by miraculous claims from gadget manufacturers. I have tried TENS for back pain which didn't work. Hope your husband finds some relief.

hi, I paid a lot of money for one a few years ago, then read if you have had a dvt or got one, do not use this machine. So please be careful x

Epsom salts, in a warm water massaging foot bath, have helped me.

I use toeless compression socks for my swelling, which helps. It does return a few hours after I remove them though. I have an electric bed, and keep the feet slightly elevated overnight.

Thanks for your comments. I visited my podiatrist yesterday who recommended compression socks as temporary relief. I will give them a go.

Thanks again CarolX
