RA flare.

Hi

I started with what I thought was a flare a week ago. I’ve been in agony, every joint and surrounding areas hurt. I all so felt so ill it was hard to function . Luckily I had a Rheumatologist appointment yesterday. She was love and so caring. Did CT scan on my Rt knee, which was the worse area. It showed bone erosion, synovitis, and fluid. Gave me a steroid infiltration into knee, and an injection of steroids for overall inflammation.

Thankfully this morning I feel so much better. The pain is much better. Feels like a miracle.

Also have to start steroid tablets and taper over 3 weeks. Consultant mentioned it might be fibromyalgia. as well. It just gets better. She is checking with eye specialist if I can increase my Dolquine as apparently they is very slight problem with my macular. Bit scary as my mum had macular degeneration wet and dry.

she has ordered blood tests incase I have to go onto biological medication. X-rays ordered and I will see her again next month.

So relieved the appointment went so well.

That sounds like a truly awful flare - but a very comprehensive appointment. Hope the improvement is long lasting

It was horrendous. The euphoria seems to have subsided a bit. I think it was just such a relief to have so much less pain. I’m am a bit achy again, but nothing like I was. I’m so grateful for the prompt treatment and follow up in a month.

Flares make you feel so unwell. Great you had an appointment the next day which was very positive. Just having somebody care and help you medically is such a relief sometimes. You have been listened to for sure. Great they were so proactive and you are on your way up. Hope it stays that way. Steroid injections and tablets are a godsend, despite their side effects and allow you to feel human again. Biologics have helped me. Hope your eyes stabilise. Take care and fingers cross you stay well. x

I know, I’m so luck with my rheumatologist. It make a massive difference.
