Anyone tried one of these?

I bought this today. Had to get a neighbour to open the darn thing. Between us we managed it! I put the safety bar on it. I bought it as I'm really unsteady on my feet at times. I think my muscles are week. I'm also overweight. I had to laugh because actually getting on it was a challenge! My hips and knees are stiff. Bouncing up and down gently was my limit today. Maybe a back flip tomorrow! 🤣 It's actually a bit of a hoot...if somewhat painful. I'm hoping it will get easier.

Oops sorry for upside-down photo.

So …what do you do? Just sit on it & jig up & down?

What is it sold as being helpful for? Was it expensive?

I actually bounce gently up and down for now. It's supposed to help with stability and muscle strength. I tend to fall over a bit so I want to fix that. It's good for cardio too. It's quite good fun. I got this one for £80 so not cheap, but it's a good quality one...and if it helps...

Look up rebounding for arthritis.

Crikey…..you had better get some sort of padded surface to fall on….cos even ten year olds fall off things like this.! I bet if you confessed you have bought this to your rheumy he’d have a fit….& give you a ‘just in case’ referral to Orthpaedics 🤕

It's fine. It actually has a bar attached to hold on to. Already had a 5 minute bounce! By bounce I just mean a gentle bobbing up and down. Not quite ready for lift off yet! 🤣

I do actually have issues with my spine, hips and knees which causes a lot of issues with stability. This should help. I guess I will find out.

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Blackberrywine

Are you just sitting on it & bobbing up & down…or do you stand on it?

Blackberrywine profile image
Blackberrywine in reply to AgedCrone

Standing holding on to the bar. To be honest sitting and bobbing would be harder. Too low down...I'd never get off. This is partly why I'm doing it. It's not as dangerous as you think. I get more pain walking because of the hard ground. The trampoline is soft.

Morning. I just looked it up and very excited to buy one because I can’t run anyone to my knees and miss it badly. Please let me know how you get on with it!

Good for you! It comes folded. You will need someone to help you to flatten it out. It's really stiff! I got a neighbour round to help. Once opened flat it's really easy to put legs on and attach handlebar.

Go easy and enjoy! It's great fun to use. I have spinal, knee and hip issues and it's a joy to get some movement back. So far it's not made anything worse!

Sorry BBW one last question: does it have a water proof cover as I think I’d like to keep mine outside on our decking. I can guarantee I will be too lazy to open and close it each time and I think it might be in the way in our living room.

Thanks!

No it doesn't, but a simple tarp might do the job. To be honest it's pretty hard to open and close. I'm lucky to have a spare room, so just leave it up. If you don't need the handlebar (I do!) It's easy to just take the legs off and store it in a cupboard, or flat against a wall. There maybe other ones that come with a cover. I'd advise getting the type with bungy springs rather than metal as it's easier on the joints.

I think it’s a rebounder, low impact exercising. They’re not recommended for anyone with osteoporosis, degenerative disc disease or spinal issues in general. That’s because they will stretch and compress the spinal tissues, adding more stress to damaged discs or tissue. I think you should skip this one AgedCrone 🤗

I’m ahead of you RR…..See my reply above….written before I read your disgraceful allegation that I can’t do back-flips on mine😁😁😁

Will do. I reckon anything is worth a try.

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Blackberrywine

PLEASE…..speak to your rheumy or your rheumy nurse if you have one before you get on that rebounder again & really hurt yourself.

Believe me…just one small fall could cause serious damage to your spine …& as someone with two vertebrae compressed fractures that is damned painful …even after three years they cause agony.

AgedCrone thanks for your concern, but it's really fine. I am a different person to you. I bought the safest bouncer with handlebar and I'm prepared to take, what seems to me, to be a relatively small risk. I understand completely that this is not for everyone. I was only really asking if anyone else had tried one in order to determine it's effectiveness. To be honest, I have more accidents gardening and simply walking do to lack of muscle strength. Maybe this will help. I won't know unless I try. 😄

I wish I was brave enough to get on one of those - hope it helps, please let us know.

Blackberrywine profile image
Blackberrywine in reply to Gladders

I will. It's definately not for everyone, but actually a much gentler exercise than people think. I can't swim (which is my favourite) as the chlorine causes horrendous psoriasis flare. I can't cycle either due to balance issues. This bouncer has a bar to hold on to. I feel safe on it.

I was just asking really if anyone else had tried one. ☺️

I am not sure i would be safe on that thing.xxx

You wouldn’t Sylvi…neither would most of us! So glad you are back with us & doing well after your surgery.

I don’t know how you found my backflip photo though…...when I looked for it…to check if I had pressed the right buttons…I couldn’t find it.

Does anyone know what a circle of green dots mean around a pic.? Is it that someone posting might have revealed personal details? (🤣)Fat chance in that photo!

That is the best way Sylvi…have the treatment, go steady & get over it….keeping on fussing about something that has been successful does no good.

But GO STEADY….no mowing the lawn Young Lady!

oh no, definitely not for me it’d do more harm than good but good luck with it. Did your physio advise you to do this?

Blimey, if I got down on that thing I'd never be able to get up. Can't sit on anything lower than a chair. Hope you enjoy your new "toy".

Blackberrywine profile image
Blackberrywine in reply to warwickstag

I don't sit on it! I have the same issue getting up and down from chairs and stairs etc. This is why I've bought it. It helps some folks. Better than watching the news! 😁

Blackberrywine profile image
Blackberrywine in reply to wilbertjellyfish

It is! Takes time to get used to as I'm very stiff. I stuck the song jump around on and attempted to do so!🤣 There is a bar to hold on to.

I recently started chair yoga as directed by my doctor. Might be a little safer than jumping and risking a fall. If you can send it back or sell it, you won’t lose what you paid. I don’t know your age but I’m 78 and wouldn’t want to try it unless perhaps someone was home with me to call the ambulance. My balance is very off and I know that for me it would not be an option. Best regards and please be triple careful.

Well Blackberrywine , no ones ever recommended this for my arthritis, or balance but guess I could do it with my great grandchildren . Take care dont go mad at it or you will bounce onto the floor and one up to you for trying. Hopefully the volunteers at Arthritis action will have seen your picture and post. Enjoy your weekend.

had mine for years… on good days I rebound/jump on it for short heights and at other times just bend my knees and flex up and down without leaving the canvas. It helps with my balance as much as shifting join fluid around 👍🏼
